Trouble at the House of the Mouse

So... did you guys actually read the Variety article? This seems like typical corporate shenanigans when leadership changes. Nowhere in that articla did I see anything that said Feige was leaving or even close to thinking about leaving and this little tidbit in the article itself STILL has my head scratching.

In the restructuring, top division heads have lost oversight of P&L, which has been a tough pill to swallow for the likes of FX chief John Landgraf and Peter Rice, the chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content, who has grown frustrated that some of his responsibilities have been taken away. “That is inaccurate,” Rice told Variety. That control was an integral part of running their respective business units, given that those who deliver the best profit/loss numbers to their corporate chief often had the most authority and swagger on the lot. Now, the creative side doesn’t have those bragging rights, which means that they spend money on content while the distribution side rakes in the revenue and with it the glory.

It's like they actully wrote this paragraph, then got comment from the guy they were talking about, felt obligated to stick the part in about him saying what they were actaully saying regarding him was inaccurate, but then kept the rest of the paragraph anyway. There's no context at all for what he's saying is innacurate.

There is a LARGE internet presence that is WISHING that Disney will fall on its face for a whole host of reasons which is why there's so much attention being paid to shit that's going on in the boardrooms rather than what's going on on screen.

Based on their output, Disney isn't the company that should be getting all of this scrutiny. Warner Bros has gone from having the reputation of the most filmmaker friendly studio in town to being a complete pariah amongst directors. Nolan is pretty much done with them. Snyder is trashing them every chance he gets and other filmmakers don't seem to want to have anything to do with them either. Where are the WB is in trouble threads? Because they are in FAR more trouble and have been since AT&T bought them than Disney is.

Disney will be fine. Iger was obviously really great and Chapek is...different. And what a wild scene to be thrown into with Covid shutting down production, cinema distribution, and the parks 6 weeks into his time as the big boss.

probably the two biggest camps that want to see Disney fall is Marvel comics stans that hate the “woke” direction, and Star Wars stans frothing at the mouth to see Kathleen Kennedy fired.

DC stans seem to be like Sonic the Hedgehog fans. No matter what WB does they’ll still defend the movies and seemingly give WB infinite passes. It’s almost like they’re more ok with there being creative differences with what they thought “should be” and what “actually was” than Marvel/Star Wars fans.

No, I've just disliked the direction Chapek is taking the company, and this is mostly in terms of the parks. He doesn't seem to give a rats ass about the customer experience ...or the workers for that matter
