It’s always worth reminding that this stuff is for testing the constitutional waters for the avidly right wing court system and scotus that was legally installed from candidates who cumulatively lost the vast majority of votes in this country. It’s no surprise that this stuff is happening while the foundations for repealing Lawrence v Texas and obgerfell and roe and Casey and griswold are being attacked relentlessly by fervent Christian nationalist ideologues at the federalist society who see the signals from the courts that many of these so called “settled” cultural issues are fair game. Save me the absolute fucking horse shit that this isn’t meant to attack non gender conforming people. Or that attacks on “ CRT” are not attacks on teaching factual non whitewashed history. Or that attacking “cancel culture” isn’t about muting criticism in their efforts to do these things! It is! Scratch the surface of these things and it bleeds homophobia, transphobia, racism, and all other forms of prejudice!

My wife’s old school district usually has to replace 200-300 teachers every school year. They are estimating that this year they’ll have to replace 700+ teachers. One school they even did a midyear redistricting because so many teachers had quit!

Even if the techniques were perfect we still have dumb as rock cops who would have to do all of this science so safe to say if you get arrested for a crime they’re gonna do their “best” to make sure you do time for something

Western Michigan is one of the most insanely reactionary parts of the country. The moderation that exists in southeastern Michigan exists everywhere else in the country. There’s nothing special about it, and there’s no liberal hubris that exists in this country that makes up for having to share power with republicans or being moderate. It’s all vibes, tone, and projection of moderation. Remember this state had a full on right wing occupation of the statehouse in April 2020 protesting covid lockdown rules.

Goes back to my theory that essentially the only long term good to come from the American project is the national parks

Everything bad about California is the same stuff as everywhere else but to a greater degree because it’s bigger than everywhere else

Michigan has the best beaches and 4 seasons but it’s just as crazy as the rest of this country. California is one of the best goverened states!
