  1. The White House has confirmed US troops are being withdrawn from Syria, after President Trump said the Islamic State (IS) group had been "defeated" there. But the partnership between the US and the Kurds has enraged neighbouring Turkey, which views Kurdish YPG forces - the main fighting force in the SDF - as an extension of a banned Kurdish group fighting for autonomy in Turkey. On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country might soon start a new military operation against the YPG in Syria.
  2. Making America Dead Again #MADA The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found nearly 70,000 more Americans died in 2017 than 2016, with rising rates of death among 25- to 44-year-olds. Thursday's reports revealed synthetic opioid-related overdose death rates rose by 45% on average, nationwide. The suicide rate is also the highest it has been in decades
  3. https://news.gallup.com/poll/236420/record-low-extremely-proud-americans.aspx For me, while I'm one of the ones shouting "USA USA!" when American teams are playing internationally, the "pride" part I don't get as much since I didn't do anything to earn being an American besides being born here (it would likely be different for an immigrant who did have to work to become a citizen). I understand that when you're a minority and you've been oppressed, there's something to be said about being proud of who you are, which includes your race or orientation or religion, but ideally, I'm with less pride and more appreciation for what you are. I guess it's like that George Carlin line: you wouldn't be proud of being 5'10", so why be prideful of how you were born as if you didn't work to achieve it? Be happy, not proud.
