I love both first and third-person RE, so there's no significant difference to me. To me, a huge ass character taking up 1/3rd of the screen doesn't magically make the game better, and the camera's so zoomed in it's not like you get a better view peripheral view, either. Always seemed like a kind of weird thing to get hung up about, but I guess I personally despise isometric viewpoints so maybe it's like that.

true but in 3rd person you do get a little better view of what’s next to you and to an extent what’s behind you. Even if it’s only a foot or two I enjoy being pulled back from the action a bit. I also generally dislike isometric games but I don’t know why haha

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - 2.5/10

It's fun in parts. Mainly early in the movie. Makeup is bad. You can tell where the budget went as there are some scenes that have laughably bad editing and effects, while others can be really good. Alan Tudyk's character is just dropped and never mentioned again. Honestly, none of the characters really do anything or mean anything other than Lincoln himself.

It's basically like the first 30 minutes of the movie get your dick hard and then the next 60 have you thinking about the fact that you've forgotten to file your taxes and there's that thing you're supposed to go to that you don't want to, and before you know it you're just not in the mood anymore and can we just go to sleep?

     Booooooooooo 😝

I'll probably go for my first Platinum Trophy for their game.  I do really enjoy the gameplay, and my guess is there's a trophy tied to each weapon possibly which will force me to use all the different kinds.

The artifacts I got for this last run were ridiculous.  Made it so easy.

Thats the best part of Roguelikes. When you find that unstoppable build it’s such a rush.

Another leak. This review is more spoilery, so I'm copying the non-spoilers:

Housemarque has succeeded with their fusion of third-person shooting and roguelike elements in Returnal, one of my favorite PS5 titles so far

    From that review, the pros:

    • Third person shooting, roguelike loop, and enough combat depth to have the two systems overlap without friction
    • Dozens of artifacts and parasites to give Selene a fighting chance
    • Excellent implementation of all DualSense features
    • Each map is randomly generated but filled with handcrafted maps and combat arenas
    • A good Dreadbound build is my favorite playstyle in all of Returnal
    • Each complete run lasts up to an hour and a half

    Cons:

    • Being struck by unseen enemies and losing half your life is a common occurrence
    • Half the weapon roster either underpowered or utterly useless for long range encounters
    • Getting your corpse scavenged and taking a negative ailment in an otherwise perfect run isn't cool
    • Many lore pieces relegated to audio logs and alien scripture tucked away across randomly generated stages
    • Occasional dips below 60 FPS during firefights with high explosion counts
    • Malignancy effects are rampant in Act Two with nearly 50% of every item drop covered in negative effects

    Reviewer loved it.

    9.3

That last con is interesting. On the Bombcast they sorta listed that as a pro as they enjoyed the extra goals it gave you to accomplish in order to lift the ailment

  5. Yeah....so I was prepared to stretch a lot to love this. But what the fuck was that. Why is the accountant from the Dark Knight playing Shang Tsung when the original dude is still alive. Shang Tsung was originally and old guy anyway. Who the fuck is this brand new guy whose trying to punch his wife out of the ice while the fight is still going on? Why is Liu Kang king of an idiot? Jesus Christ has the success of Marvel taught them nothing? You don’t try and make ridiculous IPs make sense and work in a real setting. You lean all the way into them and people will love them for that. Stupid ass movie.

  6. 4 episodes in and I like it even more. The secondary storyline(heist one) is really coming into its own and has had some very funny moments. Its interesting in that so far there isn’t really any kind of singular antagonist. There’s a bunch of threats that are seen or talked about but no big bad. All of the characters are genuinely likable and by episode 4 it has hit a few emotional notes that surprisingly feel earned for how early it is.

Im told there’s a trilogy and then another 2 books that tell a different story in the same world and that the show is combining the two stories to tell at the same time. I’m assuming that’s why there’s the main character storyline and then the heist style storyline. Def gonna check out the books when we finish the season.

  7. Anyone else check this out? Went up on Netflix last night. 8 episode 1st season.

I know absolutely nothing about the books other than they fall into that YA Fantasy genre. Which usually means the adaptions are either really good or absolutely cringe CW quality. This appears to be the former. Watched two episodes and I like how the story is broken into two parts. You’ve got the kinda sentimental serious/magical story on one side. And then a sorta Oceans 11 type story on the other side. I also really like that they pretty much just dump you into the story. There’s a very small amount of exposition at the begging and then it’s full steam ahead, figure out who everyone is and what’s going on by yourself haha. I like it doesn’t waste 3 episodes slowly building up the world.

No idea if this is a pretty straight up translation or more of a kind of accompaniment to the books the way the His Dark Materials show is. But I’m liking it a lot so far. Curious what book readers think.

I'm about 1/4 of the way through the movie and its... not good. Not horrible, but really, really not good. The acting sucks, the fight scenes so far are chopped to pieces, the backstory isn't explained whatsoever (not that the lore of Mortal Kombat is really that clear to begin with). We'll see if it all comes together

Keep your unwarranted negativity to yourself. Booo this man. Booooooooo

This is my issue with all rougelike games. Even Hades which has a generally great art design, you spend most of the time in essentially the first stage and see most of the environment variation you will spend most of your time with in like 10 minutes. Even after then you don’t get a lot of variation for the amount of time you play it beyond the random shifting of assets, but mostly it’s like different rooms in the same area over and over. Actually though it had the same problem, Dead Cells I feel does this a little better.

I don’t think it has to be part of the core concept with these games, move assets around randomly when you die but have a large template of basic environmental designs that are distinct from each other.

huh? The first 3 areas are drastically different from each other. A good run only takes 30-35 minutes how diversity did you want in that period of time?
