    I wish there was

Bummer. Theres def a few QoL things they can do without going full ubisoft.

Another to add to the gear comparison, a simple quest log would be nice. Doesnt have to be a marker on the map or anything. Just something like “you talked to this chic and she tells you her dad is in this place. Asks you to see if you can find him”  thats all.

  2. Ok so a few questions:

1.) how exactly does attribute scaling work? The section at the bottom of a weapon where it seems to be graded D->C  for example.

2.) when looking at a weapon, there seems to be a base damage and then another number to the right. Is that with gear or buff affects activated?

3.) how do trigger critical hits? Is it based on a single hard hit? I seem to rarely ever trigger that audible note when you get the hit and the enemy looks staggered or takes a knee. Maybe bc I button mash at that point, so im bypassing the critical hit? Is there a way to predict when youre going to land one so you know to chill and line yourself up for the R1 critical attack?

4.) is there a weapon/armor comparison setting when for instance youre looking at a vendors gear and want to compare it to your gear?

  3. Was swamped with work so didnt get to play a ton. got through stormveil castle on the main path and killed Goddric on my first attempt.  I got this named summons Lithugal or something like that and leveled him to +3 and he basically facetanked goddric while chipped away from the back. I heard there was an NPC you can summon like magrit but I didnt see where I could do it before the fight. I need to continue exploring the castle bc its massive.

I also fully explored and beat all bosses in all of limegrave with the exception of the boss in stormhill evergaol. Dude is hard AF…but im now like 10 levels up from last time so i have to try again. Also need to go back to sofria well.  I barely did damage to the enemies  right at the start so I pieced out. Can only imagine what else is in there. I stoped at the edge of calied bc Im still having PSTD from getting sent to that crystal cave…but I do have to get back there as well.

I really think they hit the nail on the head with this game. between the exploration, all the cool stuff you find, optional boss fights and more forgiving checkpoints, its really one of the best open world games ive ever played. And I had no intention of playing it. I just hope that as I progress (bc I know im still basically at the beginning) that I dont hit some unforgiving difficulty wall thats going to burn me out.

I agree that guy can fuck off lol. Also anytime I get runes I immediately go and use them then cause I’m not losing them.

Don't even worry about that dude yet. I checked out what was down there last night, killed him and I forgot what the reward was now but...it wasn't some game-changing shit or anything.

Also, he gave me like 2000 runes.

I never jumped down there because I saw so many bloodstains I assumed it was insta-death :p

I normally do spend them right away, in fact I went right there after the Tree Sentiel to spend them. And I wouldnt have normally jumped bc im a big pussy when i have a few thousand souls on me. But I was having network issues last night and was playing offline so no bloodstains were showing up. Totally  Forgot, and leaped right over thinking it was a shortcut to the blacksmith. Lol.

  5. Been a crazy week so I havent been able to play much. I did finally beat the Tree Sentinel. I then took my runes to the roundtable and

    Spoiler

Jumped off the balcony and am getting absolutely destroy by the NPC invader The Mad Tongue Alberich. And I dont think you can escspe

    fuck that guy.

I picked up The Morning Star mace in the south of Limgrave and its passive says “causes bloodloss buildup (50)”. What does that do? So far I havent seen blood loss proc on anything, including bosses.

What weapon do you have? Might be time to level it up more? I didn't do a ton of damage with the Estoc but about maybe...90 on each hit?

Also you can equip your staff or whatever to your right hand prior and switch between magic and melee.

I was using my starting short sword for s while that I got up to +2 and then put an ashes of war on it that allegedly made it a quality weapon.

I finally got a straight sword that does more damage at base than my short sword +2, so ive been using that and then equiped the ashes of war to make it quality. I might leveled it to +1, I dont remember.

I want to say I do around 50-60 damage. Im sure if i was patient and kited a lot I could bring him down, but it would take forever and I lose my patience.

Are you fighting him on horseback or no? I thought he was kinda the horseback fight introduction.

I am. I think the issue is I rolled an astrologer and I do so little physical damage and he deflects my magic back at me with his shield. So I just gallop around him and chip away. Each hit barely does anything and eventually he just catches me. Best ive done was maybe get him down  2/3rds.

Press LT, or L1 to activate it.  Takes FP but its a special move/ability.

it looks like there might be level requirements even though it doesnt say. Ive had it equipped since I got it and it did nothing.

I just bumped up a few levels - went from strength 12 to 16 bc I do no physical damage and now it suddenly works. It actually replaced parry which was totally useless in this game

were you? i think he will sell you something that helps with margit but not sure where he goes after you see him.  he gave up at 50% for me

    Spoiler

Once you kill him, go back to the start of the cave and then back to him. He sells something called Magrits Chains or something like that. I bought it for 5000 runes.

I equipped it in a slot and it basic stun locks magrit. But it seems to only work in the first phase. I got 2 uses in before triggering the 2nd phase

    Down goes Godrick!

That Castle was a joy to explore, and I'm sure I missed a lot and need to revisit it.  I was shocked to see just how thorough it was designed.  I expected a pretty linear straight forward area with how large the game world alone is, yet I get a full blown area that is larger than most Dark Souls areas by itself.

Just really impressed with everything I've been experiencing.  I fought Margite as a Lvl 35ish, did it 2nd try with no summons.  Def didn't kill it in 5-6 hits, what weapon you using @Xbob42?  It was a fun fight though.  Just cleared Gordrick, really fun fight as well.  Had to summon my fellow Hero Class teammate though to come kick ass.

    I'm addicted!

Level 35?  Holy shit. What direction did you explore in? I feel like ive explored most of the first area after unlocked the map. West Limgrave. I beat Magrit as I mentioned above but only at level 17 and it took me like 15 tries.

maybe im rushing too much by following the guiding light, but i have killed about 4-5 side bosses who all went down pretty easy.

  11. 2 minutes ago, BloodyHell said:

You can. I ran to the grace point to get summoned though, it was not my instance, so im not sure that matters.

speaking of this…I noticed before dungeons, theres a statue and you activate it and it says “the summoning well is active” or something like that. Im assuming that means you can call in another player for help? But how do you do it?

For any class, pumping Vigor up to 20 asap is a good starting goal as it'll give you a lot of survivability early game.  You can make your character however you want, but if you want to mess around with magic, I don't suggest raising strength or dex past 16 (unless an item you really want to use requires it) and instead invest your points into Faith or Intelligence. You may need to boost arcane as well since some magics also have a secondary arcane requirement. As far as parrying goes, it's passe now. Guard Counters are way more reliable and easier to time.

It's From's way of telling you to stop getting hit.

thanks this is helpful. My goal was to get strength to 16 since im finding a bunch of swords that require it. My tactic has been to use magic to damage the enemy as much as possible then move in for melee critical strikes.

they dont really tell you what the differences are between faith, intelligence, mind and arcane. I havent put anything into them but one point of mind bc it bumped my FP up a few points.

  13. Aight. Yall sucked me in and Ive played like 4-5hrs today. I went Astrologer bc I wanted to experiment with some ranged magic and melee. I also took the golden seed as my keepsake.  Here are my current stats. Im level 16. Im not quite sure what I should he dumping points into so ive been doing a little strength, vigor mostly. Them did a little mind and endurance.

can you vets give me pointers? Also what gear should I look out for. I found a cave with a ton of smithing stone so ive been upgrading my starting short sword snd staff bc I havent found anything I can equip (not enough strength). I have found some decent armor pieces and I bought a better shield and leveled it a little.

    so far ive

    Spoiler

    Beat the bosses at

    Groveside Cave

    Limegrove Cave

    Cave of Knowledge

the knight on horseback right outside the church continuously pushes my face in, so Ive been avoiding him.

i cant believe the big troll sword dude that drops down at stormgate is not a named boss, but he is pretty easy if you kite him outside the gate away from the archers. But i cant seem to be able to entirely clear that area…so I just ran through.

I ventured south from the camp outside stormgate and found another dungeon near some poisonous flowers, but i havent attempted it yet. There is an encampment on the southside of the uncovered map for that region that I cant clear. dude are hard AF and theres some mage who reigns bolts down as youre trying to fight.

so im assuming since the guiding light is leading me to that castle north of stormgate, thats where i have to go, but I feel underpowered. As I was running up the archers and some fireballs were being shot at me.  Thats kinda where I ended for the day to hang with the fam

my biggest issue is parrying. I just cant figure out the timing on any mob or boss. Im like 0/200 in trying to do it.

  14. I was watching a Swedish dude on Twitch play.  I never watch a SP game stream, but I was so intrigued based on the insane review scores, I had to take a look. I think I wound up watching for like 2-3hrs! I have to say it looks really good. Its just oozing with atmosphere. The freedom of exploration was really giving me a hardcore BOTW vibe. And there are checkpoints everywhere. There wasn’t really a time where he went far without finding another one. And it seems from

what i saw there is usually a checkpoint right outside main boss arenas.

im 13hrs into Horizon and while its good, it hasnt sunk its claws in me. I may have to pick this up.

  15. Im just going to spolier alert my whole comment

    Spoiler

Im about 7-8hrs in and still in The Daunt. So I havent even hit the actual Forbidden West.

the game is beautiful, but so far it doesnt feel like much of a difference from the first one.

i really hate the climbing mechanics. Its 2022 and were still following yellow highlighted ledges and perfectly placed hand-holds? They couldnt come with something like  BOTW or AC? It completely breaks the immersion.

Im finding the controls cumbersome  in terms of combat. combos dont seem to work for me, I dont think ive gotten that first perk in the melee skill tree to work outside of the arena (something about energizing the enemy then hitting them with an arrow). the button sequences are odd L2, tap Y, L2 tap R1 then tap something else. Its so much to remember ln the middle of a fight.

my last gripe is I was really hoping there would more ancient ruins. In the entire Daunt there was one spot and it was a just a house you could finish exploring in a few minutes. I hope once Im actually in The Forbidden West, theres lots more

I feel like more recent Souls games have been far more generous with Bonfire placement.  I feel like in most areas theres almost too many.  In Sekiro they are seem to be everywhere.

yeah it's rare that you lose 2 hours of progress unless you completely miss a bonfire. My first priority in a new area in these games is to find the next bonfire always. If you play smartly, you'll rarely lose too much. Although when you DO die and lose over 10K souls it stings. Its best to use those souls if you accumulate too many. Playing through these Souls games in the last couple of weeks has really rekindled my love of the genre.

the last one I tried was the Demons Souls remaster for PS5. In the first area, I want to say I mightve beaten an optional boss, but then I got to the part where you have to run across the bridge and then get to the main boss. Mustve tried it for 1 1/2hrs and having to start all the way back before the bridge every attempt was pure torture.

@atom631 maybe this will answer your question.

Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has discussed that, while he doesn't think the game is necessarily easier than previous FromSoftware titles, he does believe more people will be able to finish it this time around.

cool. Ill def keep my eye on this and see what the verdict is.

its really not the difficulty that bothers me in souls games. Its the repetitiveness. The starting back at the beginning and having to memorize the level in order to progress. You play for 2hrs and you make little to no progress. It just wears me out. I cant imagine how frustrating it might be to trek through an open world for 45-1hr and get one shot and have to start all the way back at some checkpoint.

  18. So I havent been following this game too much. is the consensus that this is going to be as difficult as normal souls games, just set in an open world?

how are they going to handle dying in an open world? Does everything respawn in the exact same spots?

With Del Torro’s involvement - will this game have an actual story past the opening cut scene?

Great video. They summed it up by saying "If you played Cyberpunk on the next gen consoles initially through backwards compatability, you're not gonna get much out of this update." That's how I played it so this is definitely on the back burner for me... if I EVER get around to replaying it.

this is what I was looking for. I played it on XSX.  Next time I jump in will be if/when they release a big Witcher 3 style DLC.
