The info page on NASA's site is really cool. I had no idea it would orbit as far out as it will be. Orbit - Webb/NASA WEBB.NASA.GOV The James Webb Space Telescope (sometimes called Webb or JWST) is a large infrared telescope with a 6.5-meter primary mirror. Webb will be the premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers worldwide. It will study every phase in the history of our Universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on...

Merry Christmas, everyone. It's different this year. A lot of us didn't get to see our families. Make it the best you can. -
I am beginning to doubt my negative rapid test result. After going to bed feeling fine, I had some bad heartburn/GI issues. In the wee hours I had the chills. I woke up this morning with a 100 degree fever again. I've contained it down to the 98s but I'm still fucking exhausted. Having not had Covid or there not being any really good info on the symptoms of Omicron, I don't know what this is. But it sucks. My Christmas cheer this year is alka-seltzer I guess. Needless to say I am not driving home.

Movies Movies that you love but will never watch again
CayceG replied to Fizzzzle's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Children of Men. Quite possibly one of the best movies made in my lifetime. It is so impactful that I cannot and will not watch it again with the world being in the state that it is. -
I'm like 60% certain I have Omicron. I have so little energy. My temp is ~2 degrees above normal. Around lunch today I started having upper abdomen cramps. Then the chills started and my temp started creeping up. O2 is still fine but I feel like shit. I hope to get tested tomorrow, but my neighbor checked 4 pharmacies and no one has any of the at home tes

I spent the first part of 2021 checking in on TWO jury duty summons. The first was for Federal court here in Tennessee. The process I had to go through was... call this phone number after 5pm every day, enter the summons number, and then listen to the recording to see if I need to come in person. Did that 5 weeks and never got the go-code, so that one ended. The next was for local Nashville court. I can't remember the specific process (even though it was more recent). But it was different than Federal court. It was one check-in to see if I get called in person, and I never did there either. But I did have to watch an orientation video that explains it. It sounded like the next phase would have been to come to court, wait in a waiting room, and maybe get called in from there... or not. I was dismissed before that process anyway. Apparently jury trials and whoever selects them really don't like professionals being part of them. They want your regular old Thom, Dick, and Harry to come in because they're easily pliable. Apparently people like engineers think too much. I kindof did and didn't want to be called up though. I didn't want to have to bother with the whole process. But at the same time, I wanted to get on the jury and just go for broke and try to persuade everyone else for jury nullification. -

I feel that. I never really want to be forward, so I refuse to show physical affection until we've had a discussion about it. And that only happens after I've decided they're someone I wish to pursue a relationship with. And that really only happens after 3+ dates, generally. It won't surprise any of you to know I'm still single. Yeah baby! -

Can France Resist the Woke invasion?
CayceG replied to AbsolutSurgen's topic in The Political Re-Education Camp
That's true. But I'm mainly pushing back on the line about "they aren't even parts of society!" What does that mean to the people making the criticism? And at the end of the day, my point about the dominant culture making it hard for people outside of it to join in is really the main barrier. And that's not on any sort of external group to fix. That has to come from within the dominant culture. -

That guy pays sales tax and other service fees and literally remodels things as part of your business. How is that not an integral part of society? He doesn't need to go join the Rotary Club to be a part of society. Besides, like you said, do we (the majority white, English speaking portion of society) really make it worthwhile (to say nothing of welcoming) for people like him to integrate into the rest of culture? -
The fiasco surrounding the Formula One Championship

So, I watched the race. I'm a Hamilton fan so far as I love seeing the best racing driver on the grid do what he does best with the best team behind him. I also truly love the competition between him and another very good driver in a very good team. Them being tied in the points going into this race was just icing on the cake. The last little bit of the race was purely perfect from an entertainment standpoint. I was kinda confused about the calls for the lapped cars not to pass the safety car at first, but then the lapped cars between Max and Lewis to go ahead and pass. But that allowed us one lap of green flag racing in a sprint to the finish between two very good drivers. Two things: part of the gamble was that Hamilton didn't get new soft tires--like you said. The other thing is that the race director CAN kinda do whatever the hell he wants (making rules up on the fly) with regards to the safety car procedures: So the way I see it, the issue of 'they should have red flagged it' isn't all that important. That gained steam on twitter because it's just more intuitive. But it isn't unfathomable to have ended it the way it did--it's in the rules that Masi can just do whatever he wants. -

Isn't France's 'colour-blindness' just a way to describe assimilation to a French Republican ideal that generally involves being "Socially French" which is rooted in typical white western European culture? If so, maybe they could use some CRT.
