I didn’t watch it live, but I asked a source who I trust (my dad), and he said he didn’t think it was intentional. Kirby is a rookie on a strict pitch count who had no control in the first (almost half his pitches were balls), it doesn’t make sense for it to be intentional.

That's their 3rd player who has recently had to retire due to a neck injury. It sucks. In Carson's case, it wasn't unexpected (hence the RB drafted in the 2nd round). He was a good tough runner. Fun to watch.
