  1. The only way disarmament happens now is if the Russian state collapses, or a coup occurs and the new bosses are hippies.
  2. The only full interview of Rogan that I'v watched was when he had Michael Osterholm on his program early in the pandemic.
  3. What would a broken up Russia look like, anyways? I know there are ethnic pockets within Russia, but they seem to be fairly small and along existing border regions with other countries. So even if these areas splintered off and became independent or were absorbed by other countries, Russia wouldn't shrink much.
  4. So in a little over a week of fighting in Ukraine, the Russians have potentially lost 2/3rds the number of personnel they lost in almost a decade of fighting in Afghanistan.
  5. Crimea was relatively bloodless, and the population there was either apathetic or welcoming of the annexation. What Russia is doing in greater Ukraine is the polar opposite of what happened in Crimea.
  6. If Russia were allowed to keep that land, despite "losing" the war, they would need to give something (probably quite a bit of something) to Ukraine in exchange - either reparations or land within Russia of equal or greater size.
  7. Fukushima was due to a loss of cooling, not a prompt-critical event like Chernobyl. So I suppose a Fukushima like accident is possible, where a loss of cooling occurs due to the backup cooling systems failing. This is a fairly slow process though - minutes to hours until a release of radioactive particles. For perspective, Chernobyl happened over the course of a fraction of a second.
  8. I did nuclear power for 10 years. What happened at Chernobyl is such a remote possibility for what could occur at this other power plant, you really shouldn't spend the calories worrying about it. Could there be a release of radiation if the Russians damage certain parts of the facility? Yes. Absolutely. But it won't be like Chernobyl.
  9. Tactically it makes sense for Russia to target (and shut down) the power plant as it will cripple Ukraine's power gird. Strategically this is a dumb fucking idea - even if they don't cause a meltdown or otherwise cause an escape of radioactive materials, Russia is just hardening the resolve of most of the free world against themselves.
  10. I'm not sure Cygnus would fit in the Neutron. Vulcan would surely work though. Northrup Grumman's best short term solution is the Falcon 9.
  11. Musk got laughed out of Russia in the early 2000s when he tried to spend his newly acquired millions to buy a launch on a converted Soviet ICBM to put a small green house lander on Mars.
  12. Russian space industry is salty over all of the sanctions - so they removed the flags of partner nations on a commercial launch:
