I think the "Twitter GOP" underestimate just how popular Trump still is in the flyover areas. Trying to flat dump Trump is gonna be UGLY. Liz Cheney didn't get primaried because she wasn't conservative enough. She got primaried because she refused to bend her knee to Orange Diaper Baby. Trump is absoutely going to crush Desantis in those areas.

There is no doubt in my mind Desantis will get destroyed on the national level. He just doesn't have the cult following and charisma that Trump has and the culture war bullshit isn't going to play in nongeriatric states. And running on lifting COVID retrictions early is going to matter less and less over time. He has nothing as far as economic or international policy.
