  1. Big discovery. The last (and bolded) quote below has haunted many grieving parents, but we now know there was nothing they did to cause their baby's death. Researchers Pinpoint Reason Infants Die From SIDS WWW.BIOSPACE.COM Researchers from The Children's Hospital Westmead in Sydney, Australia released a study that confirmed not only how infants die from sudden infant death syndrome, but why.
  2. We need a bunch of guys in starched collars to yell "buy! buy! buy!" at the same time. I've seen it work in movies.
  3. What a doink: He wants Canada to lean into Bitcoin, too. And he has a 50%+ chance of being Prime Minister.
  4. I am a firm believer in wearing nice things, but only because they make me feel nice (as in, clean, well-fitting clothes). If people want to wear a t-shirt to work, then who gives a fuck? Unless—as mentioned—there are safety concerns (or issues with cleanliness, etc), then it shouldn't matter.
  5. If you match this up to vaccination rates then there is a negative correlation. I bet some whackos will make that argument.
  6. Some people in Canada want the dress code changed for the Commons: NDP says it's time for House of Commons to scrap gender-based dress code | CBC News WWW.CBC.CA NDP MPs are calling for the elimination of what they call the House of Commons' "archaic" dress code, which requires men to wear jackets and ties to speak in the chamber.
  7. I've had receding temples since I was 20 or so, and my hair really started to thin around 30. So, since 32 or so I've been shaving my head. I grew a giant beard during the initial COVID lockdowns, but since then I've just gone back to stubble. My facial hair is around 50/50 black and grey, and my hair is probably 75/25 black/grey.
  8. The larger picture is even worse: The Russians built a pontoon bridge, and the Ukrainians waited until a bunch of vehicles cross before blowing it, then mopped up the far bank.
  9. Most western parliamentary systems are designed to allow elected governments to enact their policies, so in that sense if the public elects bad people, then they can more easily do bad things. In the same way, the American system is designed to make it harder for bad people to enact their policies...and that makes it harder for any people to enact policies. Personally I prefer a parliamentary system, but a big part of it comes down to not only the base system, but also everything else around it. For example, I think Canada's form of government is better than the US...but a giant part of that is because Canada's election system is not run by provinces or parties, it's a national, independent organization. Additionally, electoral boundaries are made in a non-partisan way and are considered quite equitable and representative on the whole. But if you switched that part around with the US (making Canada have extensive party control and gerrymandering, and the US have an independent and fair electoral system) then I might prefer the US to Canada. Because in the real world it's outcome that matters, not the philosophy if the system's design. On paper the US has a really interesting system, but in reality it's been corrupted and is failing as a result. Canada's system is arguably weaker, but in reality has held up much better because of the flexibility to change in a single vote.
