I have been told I speak English with an accent by several acquaintances in my life. It's a subtle type of prejudice, but prejudice all the same. I was born in NYC and raised in Jersey, I don't speak my native language with a fucking accent lol. This only happens if people learn my legal name (Jose) or they meet me with my wife, who does have a heavy accent. If I just introduce myself as Joe, I usually get people that think I am of Irish descent (which is partly true, but I digress).
