  1. Going by Worldometer's data, Cuba has 8 deaths per 1 million citizens from COVID, just slightly under our figure of 445.
  2. Congrats to the Department of Justice for successfully time traveling back to December 2019 and arresting 200 criminals. Maybe also prevent the pandemic while you're at it.
  3. There's not a chance in hell you could get Chicago cops to protect protestors under any circumstances.
  4. I've assumed for a long time that every deficit hawk was completely full of shit, but if they're really worried about spending too much now, 4 months away from the election, when the economy is being held together with crazy glue, maybe they're actually serious?
  5. Fox News using footage of a shooting in Englewood to try and justify sending in DHS into Chicago. Assuming they're gonna deploy them against downtown protesters like in Portland, that is a world away from Englewood.
  6. Turns out Tucker might be on "vacation" for different reasons altogether!
  7. Very wild reading through the replies to this and seeing people with Don't Tread on Me flag avatars telling Rand Paul he's wrong about this. You're never gonna see it more clearly laid out that "don't tread on me" in practice means "only tread on those people" 99% of the time.
  8. The son has died, the husband is alive. Apparently she'd just been assigned the Deutsche Bank/Jeffery Epstein case, so needless to say, Twitter is rife with speculation about this right now. https://abcnews.go.com/US/federal-judges-son-shot-killed-husband-injured-attack/story?id=71871708
  9. Wow, I completely missed that NASCAR had a race with fans in the stands today. Outdoors, obviously, but seems preposterous.
  10. This account is a Salem, Oregon HIGH SCHOOL paper. Man, WTF was I doing in high school? https://twitter.com/Clypian
  11. It's kinda becoming clear that a lot of higher ups in the military are as tired of Trump's shit as anyone else. When he tried deployed the military in DC, there were all of those statements put out that were something along the lines of, "we need to remember while we're deployed that our first allegiance is always to the constitution," which seemed like a veiled way of saying "we absolutely do not want to be doing this shit"
  12. It's genuinely reassuring to know that there are still careerists in the government who give a shit about what's going on. Sometimes it's hard to tell!
  13. It's not gonna make any sense to anyone who doesn't already have severe Fox News brain and isn't already gonna vote for Trump.
  14. This is the wildest thing about how they're trying to campaign right now--you're supposed to believe that every major city in the country got set on fire by BLM in late May has been on fire since, and you're supposed to believe that the mob is now dispersing out into the suburbs and coming to graffiti the side of your SUV or whatever, but you're supposed to give Trump a pass for this happening while he was the president, but also believe that he can keep you safe from it all if you elect him a second time. Also, you have to not think about the actual biggest threat that currently exists at all.
  15. The Department of Homeland Security is here to save us from the skaters from Jet Grind Radio
  16. Can't wait to find out if this is something completely non-actionable or if this is something completely horrifying that he somehow has the power to do because of some obscure land use bill from like 1883
  17. https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2020/07/15/new-data-on-t-cells-and-the-coronavirus Some of this is really jargony, but it sounds like really good news. Basically, even though antibodies seem to fade pretty quickly, there seems to be good evidence now that you maintain some level of immunity through T-cells for a much longer period. It might be similar to SARS, which some people still have T-cell immunity from after being infected in the early 2000s.
  18. I mean, I dunno if that's a solid plan if it's only his mostly white supporters who are gonna listen to him if he says not to wear a mask
  19. Seriously, why even do this? Alabama just mandated masks. Trump finally wore a mask (once). It's not even the party line anymore that you have to pretend like they don't work.
