Update: TikTok acquired by...Oracle(?!?)
Ricofoley replied to b_m_b_m_b_m's topic in The Political Re-Education Camp
It sounded like Mnuchin had talked Trump out of this as of a couple of days ago, so I wonder who Trump's talked to since then. Honestly, just brazenly taking a bribe from Facebook probably makes the most sense out of anything. -
Article: Why are Americans so wrong about crime?

Yeah, I was gonna say, I think local news is at least as big a role as overtly conservative media, and maybe bigger. My parents vote Democrat and absolutely will not watch Fox News, but will watch the local news regularly, and I absolutely cannot convince them that there are way fewer shootings in Chicago now then there were 20 or 30 years ago. I'll show them the stats and then they'll pivot to something like, "Well.... I don't remember shootings like THIS," where "THIS" is whatever the worst or most brazen shooting that had been in the news a couple of days beforehand. -
I mean, they've been pretty adamant that they weren't going to push back the postseason later in the year, so once they decided to keep going after the Marlins had their first 3 or 4 games wiped out going by winning % is really the only thing you can do because you're absolutely not going to be able to squeeze those games in with this schedule already as compressed as it is. But yeah, fuck Rob Manfred. Should absolutely be run out of town on a rail after this season.

The originally idea for the Hyperloop in 2012 was that you were going to be hurled through a tube at supersonic speeds and you'd be able to reach cities hundreds of miles away in less than a hour. So far what's he's built (partially) is a subway tunnel in Las Vegas where regular Teslas go through individually on rails. Just keep that in mind any time he just spouts off on something out like this.

I actually wonder how Fox & other conservative media would play this with HRC in office. I think they'd instinctively want to say that the HRC administration was botching the response and they were responsible for however many deaths there would be in the US in this scenario. Kind of like how at the very beginning of this Trump was kind of trying to float the idea that Obama had screwed up swine flu and that was actually horrible, but the lamestream media made you forget the whole thing or whatever. But then if you go all-in on that idea, you can't do the "all of this actually a hoax" stuff at the same time. And I wonder if the anti-mask/anti-vaxx/hyroxycholroquine is a miracle cure stuff would've still propagated on the right through the internet even while Fox wasn't on board with it. Of course, all of this is assuming the right didn't successfully impeach Hillary for e-mail crimes like a week after she was sworn in.

Just having airport screenings in line with what the rest of the world was doing at the beginning would've helped immensely. People were talking about having connecting flights in Europe where they got fever checks and were asked a bunch of questions about exactly where they'd been, and then once they got to the US they just stepped right off the plane and went right through customs.

If they're still counting ballots and it's getting close to when they have to certify the results, they might do more stuff like the Brooks Brothers Riot, an insane thing that actually happened in 2000 that I knew nothing about until pretty recently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Brothers_riot

If you put together the new edicts by the postmaster general telling carriers to leave mail undelivered, the fact that the Trump Campaign in Pennsylvania is trying to challenge drop off boxes where you can leave your ballot without having to go through the post office, and Trump's comments about knowing the results on election night, I don't think there's a huge mystery about what they're trying to do. They're going to try and slow down the mail-in vote as much as possible and then challenge the results as suspicious as they very gradually eat into his (hypothetical) lead over the course of days or weeks after election night.
