  1. Good poll for Fetterman Home of the Marist Poll | Polls, Analysis, Learning, and More MARISTPOLL.MARIST.EDU The Marist Institute for Public Opinion (MIPO) is a survey research center. MIPO is home to the Marist Poll and conducts polls on politics, the economy, sports, technology and more at the local, state, and national level.
  2. A study in the Netherlands showed that 98% of teens who got puberty blockers went on to get gender-affirming care afterward, and it's not explained why the other 2% didn't, so you can't even assume that it's as high as 1 in 50 that decided in that time that they were "going through a phase" or whatever. Most teens who start puberty suppression continue gender-affirming care, study finds WWW.NPR.ORG A new study from a Dutch clinic found that 98% of transgender adolescents who received puberty suppression treatment went on to continue gender-affirming treatment.
  3. NYT story (paywall) says that they've seen internal documents saying that the new checkmark is not actually going to require verifying your identity, lmao Elon Musk, Under Financial Pressure, Pushes to Make Money From Twitter - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM The billionaire and his advisers have discussed adding paid direct messages, fees to watch videos and other features to the service.
  4. My grade school was a polling place. They'd basically close off the entire gym area and have voters enter that way and it was basically business as usual otherwise.
  5. Genuinely very funny that on the day Elon took over a bunch of chuds were posting about how much their follower count had increased, convinced that he had undone some sort of nebulous "shadow-banning" policy that was in place. And now it's basically gonna be you pay up 8 bucks a month or else you're going to be shadow-banned in the sense that you're always going to be behind blue checks in the replies.
  6. Here's a Mastodon account that's mirroring multiple different Twitter accounts posting Ukraine news. From what I can tell, it looks like it's reputable sources, like ISW. uanews (@uanews@botsin.space) - botsin.space MASTODON.SOCIAL 2.73K Posts, 0 Following, 36 Followers · Mirrors tweets from > 100 twitter accounts that focus on the russian invasion. See https://www.celp.de/uanews for the complete list of accounts. Comments, suggestions, complaints to @lp@freeradical.zone
  7. Jackie Davalos of Bloomberg says the number of people on the trust and safety team with the ability to remove posts is down from "hundreds" to "about 15." They have a paywalled story up. Bloomberg - Are you a robot? WWW.BLOOMBERG.COM
  8. Excited for my phone to somehow crash into a tree when I refresh my timeline
  9. I signed up a couple of nights ago. I like the UI, it's like a slightly cleaned up Twitter, and it feels a little more responsive as stuff loads as you scroll. But yeah, there's like no traffic on there whatsoever to this point.
  10. Genuinely fascinated to see what happens with both Meta and Twitter in the next year or so. Two huge companies both pivoting in a wholly different direction that nobody actually asked for entirely on the whims of one guy!
  11. As soon as I saw that he had a history with some kind of nudism movement, I knew this guy was gonna get sorted into the bucket of "generic weirdo with inscrutable motivations" by the media, even though there's a very obvious throughline of reactionary politics in his online presence. After January 6th there were a lot of takes online that basically amounted to, "It was never that serious of a coup attempt because a serious coup attempt would not have a guy dressed like the Q-Anon shaman there." I think this is the same basic thought process at work here.
  12. Anybody here use Mastadon? I'm not sure if I'm actually gonna quit Twitter yet, but amongst people who say they're gonna, it seems like that's the consensus landing spot.
  13. Because of how gerrymandered Wisconsin is, this is the complete list of competitive state legislature races. And apparently Biden +27 counts as competitive.
  14. It's honestly probably better for me in the long run if the site becomes unusable almost immediately
  15. I suppose I shouldn't be naive enough to think that my brain works the same way as the median swing state voter, but really, even supposing hypothetically that Fetterman is actually not healthy enough to serve, it still shouldn't effect your vote at all. Shapiro is definitely going to win if Fetterman wins. If you support Fetterman's policies more than Oz's, Shapiro will appoint a new Senator if he has to and whoever he picks will be closer to Fetterman than Oz. There's no reason to vote for Oz if you didn't already like Oz!
  16. Yeah, I guess we'll see, but I'm kind of inclined to think that debates don't really move the needle that much these days. Trump just outright skipped one in the 2016 primary and nobody gave a shit.
  17. The 2029 Asian Winter Games were awarded to "NEOM", the Saudi Arabian city that basically doesn't exist yet lol 2029 Asian Winter Games - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  18. I can picture a very specific type of guy who's been genuinely excited for the Cybertruck since day one, I just think there's a pretty low ceiling on how many of that type of guy are out there.
  19. Will happily eat crow if everything goes off without a hitch, but you combine reports like this with the videos of guys staking out drop off boxes in Arizona and I'm less convinced right now than I'd like to be that election day workers are going to be able to do their jobs correctly and safely across the country.
  20. Assuming the design of the Cybertruck is mostly Musk's brainchild, I think that's going to prove to be a pretty bad business decision. Still not getting produced at all yet, while F-150 Lightnings are going out to customers, and it's not really clear how much mass appeal it's going to have when it finally does it rolled out. If it was the only EV game in town, you can imagine some normies considering rolling the dice on it, but if there's gonna be hundreds of thousands of F-150 EVs on the road by the time one Cybertruck rolls off the lot, and there's good word of mouth about reliability it's hard to imagine a guy who's bought conventional pick-ups his whole life saying, "Yeah, I'm gonna take a chance on this Playstation 1 Blade Runner thing"
  21. Like six separate courts int the past week agreed there was no standing to challenge this until this court ruled. I don't see how this country is remotely governable if every policy action results in a bazooka of legal challenges fired in all directions until they hit on a friendly court.
