  1. Yeah you could probably convince a couple of the old salts to raise the debt ceiling in a pinch
  2. Seems like the consensus so far is Dems getting absolutely washed in Florida and maybe doing slightly better than expected everywhere else.
  3. Elon Musk sells at least $3.95 billion worth of Tesla shares after Twitter deal WWW.CNBC.COM Tesla CEO Elon Musk sold additional shares of his electric car company after closing the $44 billion purchase of Twitter.
  4. There were four county or township level referendums on mine that I absolutely could find any recommendations or additional information for. Three of them nearest I can tell were non-binding and were just kinda like "Should the county continue to support small businesses?", and the other one was for a minuscule property tax increase to fund mental health and substance abuse facilities that I voted yes on, on the basis that it'll probably do some non-zero amount of good, and is not gonna seriously affect my finances at all.
  5. VA-10 was just called for the Democrat, which is a Biden +18 seat, so at the very least the red wave is not big enough to be threatening that kind of a seat thus far.
  6. This is the full Platformer stories from two posts up. There's some wild stuff in here. Today, I saw the Verge story referenced in here that there's actually been a bunch of new users since Elon took over, and I kinda convinced myself that maybe all of the media attention would give the site some momentum for a while and that maybe we'd all jumped the gun on declaring the site dead. But reading this, it seems like Elon's just dreaming up new ways to extract money from every user, and meanwhile nobody is minding the store because nobody knows what they're supposed to be doing since half the staff was laid off. Musk discusses putting all of Twitter behind a paywall WWW.PLATFORMER.NEWS Will he go through with it? PLUS: Botched layoffs, how the new Blue could lose money, and more
  7. I'm absolutely anticipating a GOP-led House creating a committee on the same scale as the Jan 6th committee devoted entirely to pictures of Hunter Biden smoking crack or whatever for no reason other than simple revenge.
  8. Already mentally preparing myself for the headline "DOJ determines that it would be inappropriate election interference to indict Trump while he's actively campaigning" which I know is coming sooner or later.
  9. Catching up on today's developments, apparently Kathy Griffin has been suspended for impersonating Elon, and Elon has now announced that if you have the blue check you'll temporarily lose it if you change your name at all. Wild.
  10. Elon is now threatening, and I quote, a "thermonuclear name-and-shame" of companies that pull out of Twitter advertising. This is the most terminally online man on the internet lmao
  11. Yeah, I kinda doubt anybody really has a good grasp on how much the mail-in/early vote/in-person vote split is going to change from 2020 during a pandemic, whether or not they think that they do
  12. It'd be very funny if the guy with the most lines of code just has comments everywhere like //fix this //fix later //do not delete--works for some reason??? //fix later
  13. Good poll for Fetterman Home of the Marist Poll | Polls, Analysis, Learning, and More MARISTPOLL.MARIST.EDU The Marist Institute for Public Opinion (MIPO) is a survey research center. 14. A study in the Netherlands showed that 98% of teens who got puberty blockers went on to get gender-affirming care afterward, and it's not explained why the other 2% didn't, so you can't even assume that it's as high as 1 in 50 that decided in that time that they were "going through a phase" or whatever. Most teens who start puberty suppression continue gender-affirming care, study finds WWW.NPR.ORG A new study from a Dutch clinic found that 98% of transgender adolescents who received puberty suppression treatment went on to continue gender-affirming treatment.
  15. NYT story (paywall) says that they've seen internal documents saying that the new checkmark is not actually going to require verifying your identity, lmao Elon Musk, Under Financial Pressure, Pushes to Make Money From Twitter - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM The billionaire and his advisers have discussed adding paid direct messages, fees to watch videos and other features to the service.
  16. My grade school was a polling place. They'd basically close off the entire gym area and have voters enter that way and it was basically business as usual otherwise.
  17. Genuinely very funny that on the day Elon took over a bunch of chuds were posting about how much their follower count had increased, convinced that he had undone some sort of nebulous "shadow-banning" policy that was in place. And now it's basically gonna be you pay up 8 bucks a month or else you're going to be shadow-banned in the sense that you're always going to be behind blue checks in the replies.
  18. Here's a Mastodon account that's mirroring multiple different Twitter accounts posting Ukraine news. From what I can tell, it looks like it's reputable sources, like ISW. uanews (@uanews@botsin.space) - botsin.space MASTODON.SOCIAL 2.73K Posts, 0 Following, 36 Followers · Mirrors tweets from > 100 twitter accounts that focus on the russian invasion. 19. Jackie Davalos of Bloomberg says the number of people on the trust and safety team with the ability to remove posts is down from "hundreds" to "about 15." They have a paywalled story up. Bloomberg - Are you a robot? WWW.BLOOMBERG.COM
  20. Excited for my phone to somehow crash into a tree when I refresh my timeline
  21. I signed up a couple of nights ago. I like the UI, it's like a slightly cleaned up Twitter, and it feels a little more responsive as stuff loads as you scroll. But yeah, there's like no traffic on there whatsoever to this point.
