Kyiv's insistence on holding the strategically unimportant Bakhmut borders on being pathological at this point. I'm absolutely filled with unbridled glee at hearing about the piles of Russian corpses littering the Bakhmut battlefield after one of their suicidal charges as much as the next guy, but we're well past the point where that Russian casualty juice is worth the squeeze in Ukrainian resources, both in personnel and materiel. If Bakhmut is suicidal insanity for the Russians to capture at the price they're paying, then it's no less suicidal insanity for the Ukrainians to defend that town at the price they're paying.
