Spork3245
https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2020/09/02/lg-acknowledges-oled-tv-vrr-issuesbut-cant-promise-a-quick-fix/#5cf034a413af Quote The biggest issue, and one that affects both 2019 and 2020 LG OLED sets, is that when VRR is activated, the image undergoes a brightness/gamma shift that makes dark areas in games look greyer and more washed out than they do with VRR turned off. I’ve seen this for myself recently on an LG OLED48CX. So, for instance, toggling the AMD Freesync feature in the LG OLED TVs’ menus on and off with the Gears 5 HDR calibration screen playing shows that with the VRR feature on, the black floor is raised and, as a result, there’s less visible shading detail in the dark areas of the left side of the Gears 5 calibration image. The issue is particularly noticeable if you turn off the TVs’ instant game response feature and switch to a picture preset other than Game (Standard probably reveals then gamma shift most clearly). The other issue some are reporting - and have captured on video - is noticeable instability/flickering in some dark gaming image areas when using VRR modes on LG’s 2019 OLEDs. Quote The good news is that LG now formally acknowledges that the issues exist, having apparently been able to replicate them in their own labs thanks to the efforts of various individuals who sent me videos, photos and clear examples of where the problems occur that I could pass on to LG’s engineers. And now that these engineers acknowledge that the issues exist, they’ve actively embarked on looking for a solution. The bad news is that it appears from their initial investigations that finding a solution is not going to be straightforward, and so could take some time. LG has promised to let me know when it has something positive to report. But in the meantime it has given me this official statement to share: “LG Electronics is aware there can be situations when luminance changes in dark scenes with gaming content in VRR mode. The changes may look more visible than they are on LCD panel devices because the OLED black is basically deeper, which makes brightness differences seen to the eyes in the low grey area appear greater. As an early adopter of VRR in the TV market, despite the challenges of implementing advanced gaming features in the current panel technology, we always look to best integrate new technology and improve the experience for our customers.” Before someone comments “oh, VRR issues were known for awhile!”, that had to do with XboneX not recognizing the LG 9 series as a VRR compatible device and was fixed awhile ago. DarkStar189
I got a tv last month for a small game room I put together. Spent a while trying to pick between an LG oled and the Sony X900H. Went with the Sony out of fear of burn in (since my kids will be using it a lot). Supposedly with a firmware update it will support VRR, ALLM, and 4k120. But with news like this with the LG oled's, I'm kind of expecting to run into issues.
Keyser_Soze
I've been holding off for a long time.
The def star
I would hold off. Depending what the 2021 models improve on once they are out that means that the CX, BX would drop in price. Until LG makes an OLED that is bigger than 77" or until Sony makes a TV that's better than my 900F I'm not gonna upgrade. The 900H for Sony is currently the only TV they have that supports HDMI 2.1 but they haven't pushed a firmware to activate the features yet. And even then it's a mild upgrade in some aspects compared to the 900F. Samsung has the Q90T and Q80T at 85" but they refuse to support Dolby Vision. I'm just gonna play the waiting game for an 85" with HDMI 2.1 and supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

I figured Anyway, the 43” PG27UQ (GSync Ultimate - Amazon has it mislabeled as “compatible” which is only true for the XG HDR600 model) has dropped in price to just $300 more than what I paid for my 27” just over 18 months ago https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084F3T553/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VXMuFbCNB5YW1

I believe Nvidia actually uses the term "G-Sync Display" (not using the term certification anywhere).

With 2 "tween" boys, it is becoming quickly apparent we're going to need 2 gaming computers going forward -- and ASUS doesn't offer the 27" HDR1000 monitor in Canada (and I think the 43" may be just too big). It seems as though they stopped making the 27" completely. Even the ones on eBay are only used or refurbished... and still go for $1000-1200. Now I'm debating on selling this and getting a 43"
