CitizenVectron
Leading to this great tweet: Fortunately the ballots were taped back together by hand and counted. https://globalnews.ca/news/7293277/new-conservative-party-leader-erin-otoole/ Quote A former Royal Canadian Air Force officer, O’Toole’s campaign website states that he first enrolled in the RCAF when he was 18, serving out of Halifax and working as a tactical navigator in search and rescue missions. After 12 years of service, O’Toole would drop his Canadian Forces uniform and pick up a suit in 2003 after a law school education at Dalhousie University. Specializing in areas like corporate law and energy regulation, O’Toole worked at firms such as Stikeman Elliot and Heenan Blaikie, and would also provide counsel to companies like Procter & Gamble and Gillette. After he was elected, the Montreal-born MP became part of then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet — taking over the Veterans’ Affairs portfolio in 2015. The person assumed to be the favourite, Peter MacKay, lost on the third round. Heyyoudvd would be VERY upset, as the far-right, Trump-supporting Sloan placed last. That's not to say that O'Toole is good...he is not. This is going to cause even more division within the Conservative Party, as he was effectively chosen by Ontario and Quebec, whereas the Conservative base lies in the west (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba). The party uses an electoral college to vote, however, not one-person, one-vote, like the Liberals or NDP. So the populous eastern provinces have much more power, even though the western provinces have more total votes cast, typically. Historically, O'Toole is actually fairly moderate on social issues, as far as a Conservative MP goes. However, in this campaign he played hard to the social conservative base, going MCGA. Time will tell if he drops the so-cons or sticks with them.
