Deserved it’s own thread because this is astronomical for the series. But also expected due to a Coronavirus bump?

For comparison:

- Spider-Man, the second fastest selling PS4 exclusive, took roughly 8 months to reach 13 million sales.  (FF7 is supposedly the fastest at 3.5 mil in 3 days)

- Smash Ultimate hit 13.8 million in 4 months.

- Pokémon Sword and Shield did 16 million in the first 6 weeks, a little bit ahead of AC’s pace.

- Red Dead Redemption 2 is still this gen’s juggernaut.  As a multi-platform release, it hit 15 million in the first 8 days.

Which still begs the question to me.

Why does it feel like no other developers try to do what it does, but better?

It's such a simple game, I can't imagine developing it can be all that hard for expensive even.

With what we see other teams do, just kinda shocked we haven't seen more copycats.

And while I know there are copycats out there, they all are very small indie game type projects that get very very little attention.

Larger publishers wouldn’t be interested in making this type of game without aiming to MTX the shit out of it on mobile. Which ironically is why Pocket Camp never took off.

It’s not a simple sell either while AC remains a hot property.  It hasn’t been driven into the ground like Harvest Moon was.  Nintendo still understands what makes it click.
