Music THE RZA vs DJ PREMIERE

I know there's not that many hip hop heads on this board and I haven't really been into hiphop since the 90's myself, but this was an EVENT last weekend. Since the Quarantine started, Swizz Beats and Timbaland have been promoting these Instagram "battles" between top producers where they go song for song in each other's catalog for bragging rights. Last week's was the best to date. It was a battle featuring two of my favorites The RZA from Wu-Tang Clan vs DJ Premiere formally of Gang Starr (who is one of the most underrated hip hop producers ever in my opinion) This was a pure hip hop head's battle and they dug in the crates in a friendly contest that was notable  for how much they admired each other's work. 

 

 

At the end of the day I gave the battle to The RZA... he just had too many classic records having produced most of the Wu-Tang Clan's material including their solo projects but the real winners were the fans. This was a fun communal experience in these dark, fucked up times.

I'd give it to RZA for the sheer insanity of some of his music. Then again DJ Premier made NY State Of Mind on Illmatic which is incredible.

I watched a good amount of this and now I'm driving my wife crazy playing way too much '90's hip-hop.

You know Gang Starr released a final album last year? It's got posthumous vocals from Guru on it.
