Kal-El814
Got a buddy who's sitting on a bunch of Best Buy credit and he's looking for a prebuilt PC and monitor. Budget is around $1500 for the lot. No interest in trying to build his own and since he's got the credit at BB that's where he's gotta go even if the value isn't awesome going that route. I was thinking something like this: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-master-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-7-5700-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-ti-8gb-2tb-ssd-black/6575121.p?skuId=6575121 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-27-curved-1440p-180hz-freesync-gaming-monitor-with-hdr-displayporthdmiusb-black-black/6572369.p?skuId=6572369 Been a while since I've even looked at this market specifically so I may be way off.
Mr.Vic20
My biggest concerns/thoughts with what you linked to (humor me this is a drive by post during work hours!) are: 600 watts PSU is too low to support upgrading the GPU later 16Gb RAM is skating the edge as we move into late 2024 Note a bad value for price, with the above caveats factored in
cusideabelincoln
Best Buy should actually sell all the components you need to build, and prices aren't that terrible. So he can build his own with the credit Not sure what parts are available for what price across the country, but for a store near me I was able to put this in my cart: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Best Buy) CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Contact 9 SE 33.12 CFM CPU Cooler ($21.98 @ Best Buy) Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX ATX AM5 Motherboard ($179.99 @ Best Buy) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory ($104.99 @ Best Buy) Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($117.99 @ Best Buy) Video Card: PNY VERTO GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB Video Card ($379.99 @ Best Buy) Case: Thermaltake V250 TG ARGB Air ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Best Buy) Power Supply: NZXT C850 (2022) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ Best Buy) Monitor: MSI MAG 274QRFW 27.0" 2560 x 1440 180 Hz Monitor ($249.99 @ Best Buy) Total: $1454.90 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2024-05-14 19:30 EDT-0400
cusideabelincoln
Or if just wants to best gaming machine now and isn't going to touch for upgrades for a while, then getting the beefiest GPU is ideal. PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 3 GHz 8-Core Processor ($249.00 @ Best Buy) CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Contact 9 SE 33.12 CFM CPU Cooler ($21.98 @ Best Buy) Motherboard: Asus PRIME B550-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard ($109.99 @ Best Buy) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($67.99 @ Best Buy) Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($117.99 @ Best Buy) Video Card: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB Video Card ($599.99 @ Best Buy) Case: Thermaltake V250 TG ARGB Air ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Best Buy) Power Supply: EVGA 650BP 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ Best Buy) Monitor: MSI MAG 274QRFW 27.0" 2560 x 1440 180 Hz Monitor ($249.99 @ Best Buy) Total: $1551.91 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2024-05-14 19:32 EDT-0400 The 5700X3D CPU is much cheaper on Amazon right now so he could possibly buy it there or downgrade to one of the other AM4 CPUs. 1
cusideabelincoln
This is probably the best pure gaming performance per dollar while strictly staying under $1500. It should only struggle in the few games that are very poorly CPU-optimized, but frame gen should help mitigate that for future games. PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor ($139.00 @ Best Buy) Motherboard: Asus PRIME B550-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard ($109.99 @ Best Buy) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($67.99 @ Best Buy) Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($117.99 @ Best Buy) Video Card: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB Video Card ($599.99 @ Best Buy) Case: Thermaltake V250 TG ARGB Air ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Best Buy) Power Supply: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Best Buy) Monitor: MSI MAG 274QRFW 27.0" 2560 x 1440 180 Hz Monitor ($249.99 @ Best Buy) Total: $1454.93 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2024-05-14 20:20 EDT-0400 1

cusideabelincoln
Yeah I think I found a balance of CPU-to-GPU performance if you can get these clearanced/on-sale parts PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Best Buy) CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Contact 9 SE 33.12 CFM CPU Cooler ($21.98 @ Best Buy) Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX ATX AM5 Motherboard ($179.99 @ Best Buy) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory ($104.99 @ Best Buy) Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($117.99 @ Best Buy) Video Card: NVIDIA Founders Edition GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB Video Card ($549.99) Case: Thermaltake V250 TG ARGB Air ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Best Buy) Power Supply: EVGA 650BP 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ Best Buy) Custom: Acer - Nitro XZ270U S3bmiiphx27" WQHD Gaming Monitor, AMD FreeSync Premium (Display Port & 2 x HDMI Ports) - Black ($189.99 @ Best Buy) Total: $1519.90 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2024-05-14 21:32 EDT-0400 Mainly swapped out the monitor, which you could do for one of the other builds to bring the cost down. I have no idea how good it will be, but at least one person on Reddit was satisfied with a model similar to it. I'd prefer to recommend a flat panel, because there is an adjustment period needed, but for some reason they aren't as cheap. 1
cusideabelincoln
The 5700X3D + 4070 Super is definitely the most performance per dollar you can get right now because Best Buy doesn't have cheap DDR5 or AM5 options. Going with a 7600X CPU will give him flexibility in the future, but it also costs more (overall) and is slightly weaker (right now) than the 5700X3D. So that's a decision that really only he can make, depending on how he's going to use his machine going forward.
