Taylor Sheridan's Special Ops: Lioness on Paramount+

Recommended Posts

Yeah, been looking forward to this one given John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road, Lawless) directs the first two episodes (as well as Taylor Sheridan writing every episode). I'm not sure how Taylor Sheridan does it - he is credited as writing pretty much every episode of Yellowstone, 1883, 1923 and Mayor of Kingstown (well, its first season, not its second as much) and now he's writing every episode of this show. And that's after the movies he's written. Dude is a machine.

You can tell when he's kind of checked out of a story though. Last few Yellowstone seasons vs 1883.

I’m going to watch it, Sheridan is great, and he can’t sneak very much horse dancing or cowboy worship into this one 😂

No but he snuck his other kink, police escorted convoys off doing legally questionable things.

This any good?

It's pretty good! It's not mind blowing like Sicario, Hell or High Water, or Wind River, but it's definitely got some Sicario vibes. It's much more grounded and less aesthetically stylized (no Denis Villeneuve directing or Roger Deakins cinematography) but when action does come up, like Jwheel mentioned, that's the show at its best. The spy stuff so far has played out more typically than I would have expected, very Zero Dark Thirty/The Hurt Locker vibes more than Sicario I'd say. Honestly, Zoe Saldana's personal/family life side of the story is done very well.

Oh yeah, it's definitely in there - I just saw episode 3 which finally cranked things up in the show. Episodes 1+2 were very much setup by comparison but now I feel like we're getting to the good stuff.

I started watching it last night, ended up staying up too late and went through all 6 episodes (so far online). I thought it was really solid. Definitely worth checking out. If you're not into it after I'd say 1 maybe 2 episodes, probably not for ya. Writing, Characters, Acting is all solid. Just an enjoyable watch.

I watched the first five episodes over the last three days. It’s good, not great so far. Feels like any particular attribute of the show I would say is better than the show as a whole 😂 I think it can easily improve as the stakes ratchet up.

Just watched the final episode - it was good! Really strong amounts of tension and good character drama leading up to the very brutal and quick final bloodbath. I enjoyed the show and I'm glad I watched it. While it isn't peak Sheridan, I enjoy him in this kind of world more than white man cowboys world so I hope we get more. The show ends somewhat suddenly as if they'll definitely do a second season which I'd watch if they do. It was nice seeing John Hillcoat return to direct the last two episodes of the season, and some of the dialogue was really good in the finale, especially in the situation room scenes. Overall a 7.5/10 for the season but with potential to become really good in a second season.

It was a weird ending, which is a weird comment, because it did really wrap up the story/mission it was telling. I definitely want to see more. Solid 8 episodes. Would love to see them flesh out the other side characters a big more and build out the world.

Not must see TV, but I don't think anyone who checks it out will be disappointed either. Just well made, and had me excited to watch next episode.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Not must see TV, but the next step down. Well made and entertaining. Yeah, the ending was sudden and kind of weird after everything from the main plot got wrapped up. I guess season 2 is what they're hoping for because there was no ending otherwise to speak of.
