Guest
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Flies From Thanksgiving To Memorial Day Weekend; ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ Ignites In Fall 2022 DEADLINE.COM 'Top Gun: Maverick' moves to Memorial Day weekend, while 'Mission: Impossible 7' goes to Sept 30, 2022 due to rising global delta variant. While we aren’t going to see quite the situation we did in 2020 with basically the entirety of the global release slate going away, what I’m hearing from friends at the studios is that there is a lot of concern that the north east is going to have a bad Covid winter with people heading inside. There is obviously huge concern about Covid in nations with barely any vaccination, so possible lock downs or just behavioral changes in consumers leading to avoidance of indoor entertainment again. This is really sad to see after just spending a week at Cinemacon with a lot of theater owners who were finally beginning to feel confidence coming back. And it is weird for me because Covid surges and panic are good for our drive in business (especially all the private events/corporate buy outs!), but for all my indoor friends…it’s pretty soul crushing to see this sort of news. Kamusha
It'll be interesting to see if any of the other big releases budges or not. A lot seems to be riding on how well Shang-Chi does.

They finished filming almost a year ago. They must be banking on it being a "go see with your friends" kind of movie, which makes sense. Most people don't watch Jackass alone. Still, a 5 month delay is not insignificant.

It’s in the Deadline article above. Basically, Paramount is just pushing everything to next year, even Clifford the Big Red Dog!
