In his mind I think he sees that as not being a real filmmaker.

If he was willing to direct episodes of CSI or ER, than he shouldn't have a problem directing a 10 episode mini-series. It would basically be like directing a really long movie. A lot of big time A list directors have directed TV in this modern era of premium TV.

I remember when these numbers first popped up and this was my take away. New game comes out, a bunch of people buy/play them, and then go back to their long time favorites. I don't see this as a bad thing.

The industry has had this unhealthy obsession with holding onto players' attention for as long as possible, even if the game doesn't warrant it. There is nothing wrong with a great single player game that everyone pays for and then moves on from. However, that's treated like some sort of failure; like how WB wants to double down on live service games and move away from even ultra successful single player games. I get that everyone wants to be the next forever game, but the industry is going to kill itself if that's all everyone is aiming for.

I just read an article about this sort of thing earlier today...

Someone please take the shotgun away from in-game economy designers who are ruining the goodwill built up by the rest of the team.

The video in the original post makes pretty much the same argument as this article... not that anyone bothered to watch it or anything.

Oh, I honestly do put a lot of stock in what some reviewers say. I know I'm in the minority here with that view. But I find it funny everyone here says they don't care about reviews yet they always refer to the oc scores wade or keyser posts.

When have you ever heard me refer to review scores when I talk about games? I don't care about reviews when it comes to anything not just games. I give even less credence to movie reviewers than I give to gaming sites and have done so since college. The only opinion that matters ultimately is YOURS.

Yea I get it. Biggie should have done more research on the game but I actually bought it for him so he had nothing to lose lol.

Yes but there was no secret that this game does not hold your hand in quest progression. I said it SEVERAL times before the game came out and there were plenty of previews and articles that said so as well. The game never misrepresented itself at all so if you go into the game expecting something else despite being told what the game is that's on YOU (the gamer). I'm only responding because I was tagged... I have zero interest in getting into a back and forth. Some of the "critiques" I see in here about this game are WAAAAY off base but to each their own in my opinion

    10. Titanfall 2

    9. Wolfenstein The New Order

    8. Metro Last Light

    7. Borderlands 2

    6. Far Cry 3

    5. Doom 2016

    4. Bioshock

    3. Half Life 2

    2. Halo 3

    1. COD4 Modern Warfare

I've played and beaten most of these but not all. May need to check out Borderlands 2 at some point. I remember being turned off by the first game... in fact I think it was one of few games I returned so i didn't even bother with the second. Also I'm not sure if I would put COD4 at number one although I think it deserves a place on the list. Lastly if I was going to put a Halo game on here, i would put Reach over Halo 3 although I get why they wanted to put one that had Master Chief in it. Surprised none of the Stalker games made it though. Not a bad list over all.

Yes a lot of the appeal and why it was so critically hailed is because it goes against the grain of what so many modern RPGs do. Some of the coolest moments in the game are go to this location and find this thing, like the "Investigate the False Sovran" quest. He was like there's a village here, go have a look. Then you find the village, then you have to talk to the people there then you uncover what you're looking for then some extra stuff, and I thought it was super cool.

There are a lot of fans of the first game that seem to really want to dump on this game but there is no quest like that in the first game.

I was actually trying to refrain from getting into this discussion but I'll lay it out and then that will be that.

Like I said to @Dexterryu earlier in the thread. The main priorities of the game are:

    1. The Combat: Right off the bat, much like the first game, the main draw is the combat. Now, the first game seemed to be a bit more floaty, like you could do more launchers and such but I do enjoy the more grounded approach of the second game as well. So if you're complaining about fighting, well then you've come to the wrong game. When I started the first game I said the game was "What if an Elder Scrolls Game but if the combat was fun" and I would say the same for the second game as well.

    2. The world exploration. There is so much to find in the game. I go off the beaten path often. Like I said I'm 60 hours into the game, I still haven't gone to the second area and I'm still finding tons of caves and other places I've never explored. I feel like this is also an improvement over the first game. The first game felt a lot more constricted and a lot of the quest were "go here and come back" and narrow canyons with a few places to look around but it felt like a very proof of concept curated world than what Dragon's Dogma 2 is.

    3. The story I never felt any connection to. The story is your journey and your pawn more than some gripping narrative, which is fine to me because it gives you time to explore and do side quests and explore and whatever. If you liked Breath of the Wild this is about on par with that game, but with less goofing off imo. And yes I was baffled by the story of the first game which felt like a whole lot of nothing till you got to the end then it was very strange. Not everyone had the luxury to go through that but that's not something that turned me off from the sequel, it made me want to engage with it more.

Overall I would say if you're not feeling it now perhaps come back to the game in a month or a couple of weeks or whatever. Come back with a fresh mind, you know what to expect and like you ( @Paperclyp ) said, can now engage the game on it's own terms instead of expecting it to conform to what you want.

Despite a slow start with PS5 players at launch, Rise of the Ronin's PS5 player count for April 2024 suggests the game has enjoyed consistent popularity since.

    Quote

Rise of the Ronin's PS5 player count has dropped only 20% after four weeks

Player drop-off is considerably lower than the average single-player focused PS5 game

Rise of the Ronin is losing fewer players than Dragon's Dogma 2 and other 2024 releases

The live service stuff is annoying, bloated and intrusive, but the single player story campaign has been pretty fun. I just recently played through Black Widow’s level, and it was one of the best so far. She’s my favorite character in the game.

She was my main character when I did the post game stuff. I maxed her out first. Definitely one of my favs.
