  1. 85 Percent Of Gamers Haven't Seen The Best Of Dragon's Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s abrasive design may have turned players away before the game’s best reveal

Not surprising at all. I didn't spoil myself by reading the article too much, but I should be finishing Rise of the Ronin's main campaign this week, then I'll jump back into this.

How did you get that translation from what he said lol?

You bought Rise of the Ronin...

For ME... and yes I bought Rise of the Ronin and I'm playing and enjoying it. What does that have to do with this?

Yeah I think you’ll definitely dig this. Just wait until you know nobody will be coming over to play it :P

How difficult would you say it is in terms of Souls likes? I haven really heard anyone discuss that... Over on Reddit they were talking about the hair physics for some reason.

Yeah this is a good ass looking console game. Might be my last ps5 regular game before the pro comes out so I’m glad they nailed down a good IQ/performance here. A lot of the current gen only stuff on console is just too rough IQ wise for me when there isn’t a pc day1 release to not just wait. I fully blame amd for this.

Game has such a good opening and the music is already A+++. Art design minus the humans is top notch. Nice windows for perfect party/dodge and an air dodge have me hype on the combat early on.

As far as the controversy surrounding the game, I mostly just think the main character design is dumb. It doesn’t ruin the game for me but it’s just stupid and they should make a normal character next time because man what a self inflicted wound. I don’t think it’s as big of a part of the game as some people make it out to be, but also it’s not something worth celebrating and is a negative.

Game has a good spacey weirdness to its atmosphere. Pretty hype. I think John’s DF review does a good job summing up why this one ended up sparking my interest. Just a really solid performing action game without any major issues, 20hour~ length, random bits of varied mechanics sprinkled throughout. And lots of vibes.

Translation: Play when cheap/free on PS+.

Isn’t this the home of The Silver Surfer. If so, is this the world before Galactus’s bargain with Norrin Radd was made or after.

No. The Shiar have nothing to do with Silver Surfer. Surfer was from a planet called Zenn-LA.

I just got caught up on this show this week and was geniuinely surprised by how good it has been. They definitely aren't afraid to ruffle some feathers.

As for developers they usually only get treated like absolute shit when they do things that go against what their fanbase wants, a good example is Volition and Saints Row. They doubled down during the development of the Saints Row reboot despite fans voicing their dislike with the direction that they were going with it, and look where that got them. Developers don’t always do the right thing, and when they don’t they should be called out on it.

With harassment and death threats? I mean.. you could always just not buy their game. This era of toxic fandom is NEVER justified. Someone makes something you don't want or like, don't buy it.

  6. Been playing Rise of The Ronin to death but I'm getting in the mood for something else. Don't want to dive back into Dragon's Dogma 2 just yet and I've been kinda in the mood for an over the top power fantasy and two game series from back in the day are cauing me to give them a second look... The INFAMOUS series

    and the PROTOTYPE  series.

Both are different takes on the super hero genre and both are series that I dabbled in but never played to completion. How do you guys think these games hold up today? Also any other games in this genre you think I may be interested in?

I wish the ridiculous main character design wasn’t a thing and they were just a normal character as I find that the least interesting part of the game yet it seems to get 99% of the attention.

The combat seems great, it seems big dumb and explosion-y with large set pieces and then kind of a Nier Automataish desolate but cozy sci fi world. Leveling up seems like it will be good here. Thats the stuff I’m more interested in.

Ironically if it wasn't for the ridiculously juevenile character design, I would definitely be interested in this game. Ah well... maybe I'll check it out when it hits PS+

Monthly average users over the course of an entire year is such a terrible way to measure player engagement of a tight, single player RPG. A game that everyone is playing and gushing over a few months after release is going to overtaken by the popular live service and multiplayer games.

Again, that's the point these guys are making in the video. They are concerned that Video game companies are taking exactly the opposite lesson from this data and are looking to double down on Live service games in the hope that can stumble upon a Fortnite or Roblox type game. game devs don't want a Spiderman 2 or Jedi Survivor... great single player games that people play for a bit, then put down and never touch again. They want GTA V type games where they can monetize the fuck out it for a decade.

The podcast hosts claim that there were no "water cooler conversation" games released in 2023 and that the last game to do so was Elden Ring in 2022.

This is a really odd claim to make for a year in which Baldur's Gate III released and permeated the overall cultural zeitgeist in a way that Elden Ring never even came remotely close to cracking.

I thought that was odd too because my impression was Baldur's Gate III was that game for 2023 as well. Apparently it wasn't a game that cracked the top 10 for Monthly active users for 2023 which is what these guys are basing the whole discussion on. In fact the only games that did that actually came OUT in 2023 were Starfield, Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Hogwarts Legacy? That was 2023 right? Either way these guys are discussing the data presented in that report and not making any personal assumptions.
