Commissar SFLUFAN Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 A Message from Peter Adkison (Gen Con’s Co-Owner and Chairperson of the Board) Quote This decision will not be surprising to many of you, but due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19, we announced today that we are canceling Gen Con 2020 in Indianapolis and planning an online event in its place. This will be the first time in the 50+ year history of Gen Con that we will miss the chance to see each other in person, and it hurts, but nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our attendees and the communities they hail from. I have a conviction about the power of people being together in the same space. Things will have to change as we learn how to adapt to this crisis, but one day we’ll join together in rolling real dice onto the same tabletop. Quote
Zaku3 Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 Our local historical convention Historicon has also been canceled. I went once in 2007 was a good time. Quote
Kal-El814 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Not surprising but unfortunate. I’m concerned that PAX Unplugged is going to get flushed too. Quote
Jason Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 All face to face Diplomacy tournaments through August have already been cancelled. At this rate I'm not expecting anything to be able to happen this year. I feel like you're going to reach a point where even if you're in a location where it's legitimately okay to have a convention, that it's still not going to be smart to get on a plane if you don't absolutely have to and that nobody's going to want to be in a position of inducing people to travel when they shouldn't. The real backstab involves hallway deals where you lure someone into isolation and take off youR mask to give them coronavirus. Quote
