I remember hearing about it after it happened and thought no way it could be real. I just really feel bad for the audience watching, must have been horrifying.

I remember the rumors of the fall being filmed live. A neighbor of mine said he recorded the show and had the fall on VHS when it happened. Keep in mind we were all in middle school and making shit up was common.

 

Years and years later I watched the PPV when I found out that a video package was playing at the time, and so they had to go to another video package while Jim Ross was both clearly taken aback and maintained his composure very well. He was emotional on Raw Is Owen at the end when he said he hoped to be just a fraction of the man and father Owen was, but on the night of the PPV, I'm amazed that he was able to announce Owen's death the way he did.
