Critic Reviews

Spoiler

But Why Tho? - Jason Flatt - 6.5 / 10

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 isn’t shabby, but it isn’t shining either.

Digital Trends - De'Angelo Epps - 4 / 5

By taking a strong fighting game foundation and expanding on it in every way, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 comes into its own. It introduces systems never seen in other platform fighters and keeps the speed that made the original a blast. Cleaner graphics, better art direction, and the inclusion of full voice acting don’t hurt either. The only thing the series still lacks is quality control, an area where it becomes clear why Nintendo still rules the platform fighter genre.

Expansive - Brad Baker - 3 / 5

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 just can’t quite seem to get its balance right. On the surface, it really celebrates Nick culture, giving life, style and substance to each of its fighters, helping them stand out and feel like a true version of themselves through their abilities and supers. There’s intriguing ideas in here, including a rogue-like story mode and some stunning stages that really bring the universe to life, but the difficulty curve is unnecessarily hard, the campaign wears out its welcome quite quickly, and the game is full of performance problems and stop/start UI that pulls you out of the experience way too easily.

GamingTrend - David Flynn - 80 / 100

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a huge step up from the original. While far from perfect, it's an incredibly fun and silly time especially online with friends. When playing solo, there's still a wealth of things to do too - it's just an all around good time, despite the jank or perhaps because of it.

God is a Geek - Lyle Carr - 7.5 / 10

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a really entertaining fighting game with loads of characters, but it does have some issues.

IGN - Charlie Wacholz - 9 / 10

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 knocks nearly every single one of the first game’s problems into the blast zone while also introducing the exciting new Slime mechanic, a more interesting roster, and better visuals throughout.

Nintendo Life - Alex Olney - 5 / 10

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 has the potential to be a strong platform fighter, but on Switch it's wrapped up in a frankly incredible amount of poor performance and presentation. Fighters feel weightier, and the new campaign adds context and charm to the package, but it'll take a miracle patch to save it from being a choppy, blurry, flat-looking barrel of disappointment on Nintendo's console.

PSX Brasil - Ivan Nikolai Barkow Castilho - Portuguese - 80 / 100

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a natural evolution of the first title, bringing more modes and a noticeable graphical polish. Unfortunately, it still doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from the competition, but it's a great option for PlayStation gamers looking for a platform fighting game.

Press Start - Edward Darling - 7 / 10

I'll admit that it's been quite some time between drinks for me with platform fighting games like this, but Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a fairly good mix of nostalgia, new ideas and inoffensive fun. While it may not reach the sky-high standard of something like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate it gives 90s kids like me another way to beat up our friends while reminiscing about the good old days of racing home to watch your favourite cartoons and arguing about which of them could take the others.

Try Hard Guides - Erik Hodges - 7 / 10

While some awkward controls and stiff animations keep this game from perfection, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is most definitely a title worth checking out. Fighting game fans and nostalgic Nickelodeon heads both have plenty to get out of this title, which makes great improvements over its successor. Plus any game with El Tigre in it is a good game in my book.

WayTooManyGames - Leonardo Faria - 8 / 10

Even if the controls are still a bit confusing, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 feels a lot less janky than its predecessor. In fact, it's a vast improvement over it in basically every single aspect. It looks slightly better, its framerate is a lot smoother, it features more characters and stages, and it's chock-full of single and multiplayer modes, with endless replayablity and a lot of unlockables.

WhatIfGaming - Alec Padua - 8 / 10

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 checks all the boxes of what a fighting platformer game should be. It has a wide variety of Nickelodeon characters with their unique movesets, detailed levels, and responsive controls that are easy to pick up. It's an enjoyable experience even if you only play the single-player campaign and the arcade mode. It's enough for you to get a taste of the competitive side without the need to immerse yourself in sweaty multiplayer lobbies.
