At 23:37, John compiles the numbers: around 80% of games are 60 fps/have 60 fps modes, including ray-tracing performance modes, with numbers not seen since the PS2 days.

PS4/XBO tried this at the beginning, but it mostly started with uncapped frame rates that hovered around 45 before going straight to 30. This gen, most games play at 60fps with very little in drops.

Yup, the focus on performance has been the one thing I really, REALLY didn't expect to happen this gen, and I hope it continues literally forever on every subsequent generation. It's still not amazing, but it's amazing when compared to last gen's performance. Awful frame rates (and later frame pacing issues) are what drove me so far away from consoles for so long to begin with.

I think the focus is here to stay, but as a selling point to buy a newer box every 3-4 years.  Series X/PS5 would then take on the role of the Series S.  (leaving Series S in no man's land)
