skillzdadirecta
I need this series to be brought back and updated... I honestly enjoyed this more than Metal Gear back in the day.

Bloodporne
That tazer alone entertained me for so many hours. This game felt really 'open' to me at the time, it seemingly had so many cool little details and options. I remember there being many instances where you could John Woo style blast dudes through glass windows with a shotgun and stuff like that. It was primitive but a lot of those little details blew my mind at the time. Also the sniper rifle was great. 1
Best
Great game but it wasn't better than mgs. I don't think the series needs revived honestly. I hope the new Splinter Cell can regain its magic and fill the void like Syphon Filter.

MGS is something that has held up to the test of time. Syphon Filter has archaic and strange controls, also it looks kind of shitty. Like @Bloodporne said the most redeeming factor is the tazer. But in 2021, done right, it could be cool.
skillzdadirecta
Yeah I never said it was "better than MGS"... I said I "enjoyed it more" which I did for most of the reasons @Bloodporneillustrated. There were a number of ways you could tackle different encounters and it had a lot of cool little details. Like shotgunning guys through windows or tasing them till they caught fire. Yes the game looked clunky even back then, although the PSP versions looked a lot better, but because it was so technically limited, I can get excited by what the series could look like with today's tech. Exactly this. And MGS was a totally different game. I don't think they're comparable even. Syphon Filter was the early baby steps of a TPS with surprising combat options on top. This combination would be great shit in a modern package.

This man gets it. And I only brought up MGS because at the time it WAS compared to MGS despite it being more action oriented, it DID have stealth elements and a primitive cover mechanic IRC. it predated Splinter Cell by a couple of years I think. Something I remember doing constantly, despite it barely serving any purpose, was rolling and then shotgunning dudes. I was WAY into A Better Tomorrow and The Killer at the time and this game was letting you do some stuff close to Woo shots, it was awesome. I'm sure it plays like shit by today's standards but still, if they did a reboot and actually stuck the landing, it'd be a great Action game.

If not for sheer replayability alone, I would dive into Syphon Filter repeatedly just because it was so much damn fun. The fluidity of the fighting/shooting stood out compared to so many titles of its ilk. I enjoyed the support characters as well & just in general, the levels all had their own vibe. It was influenced, seemingly anyways, considerably by the early Tomb Raider titles with regards to the shooting/running/rolling mechanics but came off as far more fluid than anyone else at the time. For years it would be this & a true Tie Fighter successor that were my "Please make an announcement about these this year at E3" statements, and I still hold true to that ideation because they're both phenomenal titles that sit very near & dear to my heart.
