  1. Yeah that’s a bit of the point I’m making. There’s no clean break, no separation will be clean and easy and without a lot of bloodshed. No one, not even trump or desatanic or whomever would allow California to leave. In addition to everything California brings to the national table, owning the libs in cali is a big motivator for the right. I always recall the republicans voting in the house literally dozens and dozens of times to repeal Obamacare just to make a fucking point
  2. Yeah. Medicaid too. And this is fine. It’s how the programs are somewhat designed. They need higher earners to not collect as much as they contribute in order to cover the costs associated with lower income people. It’s progressive taxation* and it’s very good, actually. *social security and Medicare could be far more progressive but that’s not the point
  3. There’s also indications that a decent number of dems voted in kemp and raff in the primary. and that fact alone makes me somewhat optimistic about the limits of power in a one party Republican state, absolutely assuming that they don’t go full Bolshevik and require more than mere” party registration” or request for a Republican ballot in a primary in order to vote in the primary, akin to the Jim Crow “white primary” system. It’s not guaranteed though!
  4. I absolutely loathe this point, it’s an intro point to “great divorce” hogwash. There’s more rich people in blue cities and states, and those who get the most in federal money (outside of the military) are poor black folks in the south. the makers/takers rhetoric when taken to its “logical” conclusion in a “national divorce” (like there’s ever been an amicable divorce, especially when there’s, erm, “custody rights” involved to really strain the analogy) will lead to mass death/pogroms/genocide of black Americans, lgbtq+ people, indigenous people, women, and other ethic or religious minorities, and even fucking white people, that would nearly if not entirely surpass every societal death of traffic/gun/drug overdose totals in our lifetimes due to a “divorce”
  5. You also have to id their body, they don’t carry identification. I can’t imagine.
  6. My daughters school district is having enhanced screening at school entryways with more cops at school for some reason. “Doing something” I guess. I’m just broken. I didn’t have any kids during sandy hook but now just thinking of being those parents it fucking broke me. It just hurts different now than 8 years ago.
  7. Here’s the mental health issue: misogyny and (as evidenced by Tops) racism.
  8. There’s simply nothing more radicalizing than learning the last 20 years of conservative jurisprudence and now seeing them throwing the dumbest shit at the walls to see what sticks. It’s very bleak.
  9. Undercutting and reversing Roe is the first step to simply ignoring (even further!) substantive due process as guaranteed by the 14th amendment. this is also unkind to the Islamic republic.
  10. NOAA predicts as many as 6 major Atlantic hurricanes in unusually active season WWW.AXIOS.COM Hurricanes are Mother Nature's most damaging storms, with inland flooding their most deadly threat. Not all will hit land but that’s a doozie.
  11. People with mental health issues are more likely to be the victims of crime not the perpetrator
  12. One could say that Christianity is another form of white colonial oppression
