  1. 95% of pell grant recipients (I.e. those who qualify for the 20k forgiveness) come from families that make less than $60k, and a full 51% come from families who make $20k or less. the reason Biden uses his examples and not the bullshit one from Furman is because Bidens are far more likely to happen than the other. Two people both from families in the bottom ~40th percentile (or lower!) for income both getting married and then both getting jobs where their combined income puts them in the top ~7the percentile for household income is very unlikely. yeah they should be taxed more, but no matter what the cutoff is there’s going to be bitching about it from privileged economists. If the cutoff was $75k a piece you’d hear the same thing about a married couple making $149k
  2. If you won't do SSO then you need to have good (or even just basic) processes to ensure that only users who need to have access to various systems, including regular audits of who access the information. this stuff isn't hard but it sounds like the bird app is just not concerned about data security, which is insane to me since they make money off of their users data lol
  3. To give another example of how dumb the college financing … everything … is, my wife’s younger sister will be getting the full $20k because she got a pell grant and my wife didn’t. Because between the time my wife was in college and her sister, her parents got divorced. It’s all so stupid
  4. Joe Biden’s Student Debt Forgiveness Is a Good Start - The American Prospect PROSPECT.ORG But more reform is needed to attack cost bloat in American higher education. The bottom 80% of incomes get 86% of the benefit. Once again the poor get screwed!
  5. Also you can tell this is good because the chuds fucking HATE it so much die mad, Mitch
  6. I’m hoping Brandon changes the PUblic service loan forgiveness rules to allow deferments for maternity leave under 12 months to count for that forgiveness. There’s been some update to it but missing some details now. cause if so, ALL of my wife’s student debt is gone
  7. That picture is from months ago when I was wishing and hoping and praying that Thomas kicked the bucket
  8. I’ve also never understood letting perfect be the enemy of the good
  9. This is true. Happened to my brother, went to college just before his schizophrenia started to take hold. This is very much an outlier case but there are tons of people I know of who went, took out loans, and dropped out before graduation
  10. Anyway your fellow travelers will take this to court where, surprise surprise, the wholly made up “major questions doctrine” will strike down the whole thing so that no one gets any benefit including the poor who “aren’t benefitting from this” so save your Canadian crocodile tears as literally millions of people will be in no better position and you’ll no doubt be giving cover for the ruling
  11. People who got pell grants come from poor households and they’re getting the most benefit lmao
  12. Housing costs increasing due to government mandated supply restraints is most acutely felt in SF (largely due to geographic constraints but it’s also the global center of the high tech economy) but it’s the same story everywhere. Austin and Tampa seeing 30+% annual rent increases isn’t for shits and giggles. Strange to see a libertarian of all people gloss over this when it’s an absolute poster child for inane government intervention in markets!
  13. “YoU dOnT hAvE tO LiVe In Sf Or CaLiFoNiA” like the cost of living isn’t skyrocketing in every metro anyway. The Bay Area is just looking into the future for cost of living for the rest of the country. “but what about the poor??” Ok tell congress to do something about it. The CTC cut childhood poverty by half in the year it was active and if Brandon could do that with executive action it would 100% already be done. there’s always money to cut taxes for ski doo dealers but none for people who have fewer than two homes apparently
  14. I’m really curious how this will work out re: pell grants. I qualified for them every year while my wife might have qualified for a year or two max. Not sure, it’s been a decade! but can she use some of my forgiveness that I don’t need because my federal loans zero out with only the 10k? Cause if so whew man all of our federal student loans would be dunzo.
