Convert eARC audio to your existing audio system

It's currently OOS, but you can email the owner to see when they expect more in. He responds super quickly in my experience.

    what did this run you?

so with this, aside from fixing potential eArc issues, I also get 2 extra inputs? Does it auto switch or do i manually have to select the source? And using these inputs, whatever the HDMI port on the TV is, the devices would share the same picture settings. but it will also pass audio from the other ports on the TV to the receiver?

if the above is true - then I would use this for the PS5 and XSX with “game” screen settings on that port. Put the ATV on its own port with “cinema settings”. PC on its own port with “PC settings”. And I could then just use the last port for the Switch.

@atom631it looks like Samsung TVs won’t decode Dolby Digital (5.1) if it’s being done via passthrough from HDMI to Optical via ARC or eARC because Samsung, so you might experience issues where you only get Stereo sound via optical. Because you’d be having the receiver do the output to optical it might not be an issue but you won’t know until you try 🤷‍♂️

ok then eArc it is. hopefully it works.

what about using an hdmi splitter like this? or would it add too much latency. thinking since the ps5/xsx tv screen settings wont change, put them on the splitter.  then ATV on a dedicated port for hdr10+, PC on its own port. eArc to the receiver. switch connected to receiver.

Yea, the G3 can be pricey. Unfortunately, the support for HDR10+ isn’t nearly has high as regular HDR or DV, but you might not really notice much difference if you’re just streaming, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the ATV, and Switch doesn’t support VRR or HDR at all so just run that through your receiver.
Check your receiver model as the 3000 Denons are HDMI 2.0b, not 2.1 (I have that same model). They do support eARC despite being 2.0b though, but you need an HDMI cable with network support as the receiver uses the network bandwidth to be able to use eARC as opposed to regular ARC, HOWEVER, it’s finicky with some TVs; I ultimately had to get an eARC adapter/passthrough for my CX because it would only transmit stereo when eARC was enabled. If you have trouble getting eARC to work on the TV let me know and I’ll link you to the eARC enabling passthrough device I used.

yeah I guess if the receiver is limited to 4K/60 then its probably not HDMI 2.1.

the TV has an optical audio out. why wouldnt i use this instead of hdmi/eArc ? This would free up an HDMI port for the ATV.  The switch is hardly used on the TV and the PC will probably live in my office 75% of the time. so I could always just swap hdmi between switch/pc when needed.

my current speaker setup is Klipsch RP-160m bookshelves for front, RP-240s surrounds, RP-440c center and an SVS SB-2000 sub. So a 5.1 setup. this will never change to 7.1/Atmos since the room cannot accommodate more speakers.

also - I ordered these cables. will they work for eArc?

They’re good TVs, definitely need to calibrate them more-so than Sony’s QD-OLED (and W-OLED) and LG W-OLED out of the box. Use Rtings recommendation or find common settings on Reddit as the S90c tends to tint greenish out of the box iirc. The only reason I personally wouldn’t go with Samsung is the lack of Dolby Vision, if that winds up bothering you switch out to Sony’s QD-OLED (just note that it only has 2x HDMI 2.1) or a G3. :sun:

ultimately, I would love to get a G3. But as of now, its literally $1700 more, almost double. At it lowest it was $2800, still 1K more. If in the next 60 days it miraculously drops to 2400 or less, Id probably return this and grab it.

Not having DV definitely bothers me. Although everything Ive read said that it shouldn’t be a deal breaker. It does do HDR10+ which supposedly gets pretty close to DV, but not much content out there that supports it. Although my Apple TV does support HDR10+, I dont think my receiver does (Denon AVRX-3400H), The receiver has eArc, HDCP2.2, HDMI 2.1, DV, HLG and HDR10. But I cant find anything if it does 10+.

Which brings me to my next issue. The TV only has 4x HDMI ports. If I want to take full advantage of VRR, 120hz, etc I need to run the XSX, PS5, PC directly to the TV and eArc back down to the receiver for surround sound. This doesnt leave me an HDMI port for my ATV or the Switch. So I have to send those 2 to the receiver first. Which means if the receiver doesnt do HDR10+, then I lose out on that feature and just have to just stick with standard HDR. Either way though Id imagine this TV should be a big step up from OLED67B7A that is 6+yrs old at this point, DV or no DV.

  5. I grabbed the S89c. Its actually the same panel as the S90c with a different stand exclusive to BB. Ive watched and read a bunch of reviews and the consensus is that for TV/Movies it doesnt get quite as bright as the G3, but it has better color (post calibration). However, it’s supposed to be considerably better for gaming (better HDR, 144hz refresh rate, gaming hub, sharper text, lower latency).

if I dont like, ill bring it back.

ok I think im done setting money on fire now.

I honestly have no experience with Samsung's line. I've been sticking with LG ever since they lead the high end OLED charge. At this point, I can't imagine having any display that isn't OLED, because I'm spoiled!

agree. I cant wait to setup the G8 monitor I got. OLED or nothing (at least until something better comes along)

  7. So I wound up scoring a Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED monitor for just under $700 bux. and I think Im keeping the 4090. YOLO :nerd:I know its not 4K, but I really want a UW monitor and the 4K ones are like 1300+. Id rather dump that towards a new TV. So now Im just waiting on my moddiy sff cables to come in and I can build this thing.

As for TV - how is the Samsung 77” S89C? It has a QD-OLED panel and is only $1800 at BB. I havent seen a G3 go below $2800.

The 4080S is going for about $1400 on eBay right now but they're all obviously new listing so who knows if they'll sell for that. Also consider the eBay + PayPal fees for sellers.

It's not really a douche move as you did not buy either of these with the intent to sell for a profit, it just happened to be a bit of luck where you were unexpectedly able to get both at MSRP. It's a big difference IMO.

year forgot about that. I checked a calculator and IF I sold a 4090 at 2200 its about 160 proft and a 4080 at 1400 is 125 profit.

I have to wait a week or two for my case to arrive from Formd. So maybe Ill try listing one and see what happens.

4090s are going for $2200+ on eBay right now because people are too impatient to wait for the stock drops every 7-14 days :p

HOLY SHIT.  you arent kidding. What a douche move if I did that and totally makes me a hypocrite - but youre talking almost a 500 markup. That nearly pays for my monitor.

I still feel like my plan of running the 4080, saving the $650 and then buying a 50xx in 2025 and selling the 4080 is probably the best plan. But…..a 4090.

  10. Ok - Just scored a 4090 FE from Best Buy.

guys - if you dont know, the hot stock app is fucking legit.

So I have a 4080 super FE arriving today and a 4090 FE arriving tomorrow. :money::money::money:

    what do I do!!!!!

  11. @@AbsolutSurgen any idea how this monitor compares to the Alienware? I know its not OLED, but I can get it for about $630 bux.

EDIT: according to rtings theres no contest between the two. ill wait for a deal on the Alienware.

  12. It’s absolutely on the list. But I think Im going to start with a new 1440 monitor. Im still rocking one of those direct from china,  ebay special Qnix 1440 Monitors with the overclockable refresh rate that were all  the rage 6-8 years ago.

Talk to me about what I should get.  Was looking at this beast. Can shave maybe another $100 off with cashback CC and Rakuten app. Im just not sure if this will be too big on a desk sitting only at most 2’ from it?

Unless you mean that your particular setup would require a lot of shuffling things around or something, FWIW I have my G3 wall mounted and it was super easy. The TV includes the necessary bracket and a paper outline of the TV (so you can place it exactly where you want it). I just used a stud finder, a level, and a drill to get it mounted in about 15 minutes with the help of a friend.

The TV is fucking legit. :rocking:

I read that due to how close it sits to the wall, you have cut in a large recess in for an access box? is that not the case?

@atom631since you’re at 60hz go for a 4080S. You won’t want to enable frame gen as you’ll need to disable vsync at 60hz or suffer massive input lag with it enabled at that hz (75-80 is the lowest you’d want to lock fps with frame gen). When the 5000 series releases you can reevaluate, especially if you get a new TV with HDMI 2.1 (G3 or G4 would be :angry-fap-small: )

my OLED still looks amazing. zero burn in or any issues in all these years. BUTTTT if I see a sub $2K 77” C3, I would probably jump on it.

I love the look of the G3 but theres a lot to do to get it wall mounted.

For 4k 120fps the 4090 really is the only option IMO, but if you don’t mind being a bit under 120fps sometimes then the 4080S is a hell of a value. The option of going 4080S and then swapping to a 5000 series within about a year might make the most sense, though.
Also, make sure a 4090 or 4080S is going to fit on your mini-ITX case.

my OLED is a C1, so only 60hz panel. Although a 77” C3 might be on the menu.  The couch gaming will probably be Single Player games so if Im getting over 60 with max/ultra settings w/ RT, that would be fine.

Any competitive /mp games like BF or COD will probably only be done on the 1440 IPS panel

  16. So I got the itch and Im building a new PC. My last build was 8+ years ago with a 980ti and i7-4770k. this rig is still going strong. Even fired up Bg3 and it runs surprisingly well once it loads in. the loading times are abysmal but I guess thats the CPU.

So im going mini-itx build so I can move the PC from my desk where for now Im gaming in 1440 to my 65” OLED for some couch gaming.

I have all my parts picked out but GPU. Going with a 7800x3D and 32gb DDR5 6000 CL30 ram. Stuffing this all in a Formd T1 case.

Im down to whether to get a 4080 super or a 4090. Its such a huuuuuuge jump in price. I had a 4090 FE in my cart twice today and backed out.

I know if money is no object just go big or go home. But 650 more?? is it really worth it? will it be that significant of a difference?

or do I go 4080super and than maybe sell it down the road and get a 50xx?
