The first episode of season 3 aired last night - I just watched it. It was pretty good! Sort of a balance between what we got with season 1 and season 2, while aligning itself more with the book and less filler. And thankfully, it seems they are ramping up the plot compared to season 2, which moved too slowly/had to much filler.

I enjoyed it - I hope others are at least trying season 3 out. The constant re-castings/actors leaving/fired has been the most difficult aspect to acclimate to. Mr. World is gone (now Ms. World), Mr. Ibis (Thoth) is gone, Mr. Nancy (Anansi) is gone, Media/New Media are both gone (Gillian Anderson and the anime chick from season 2), and Jinn is gone (what will Salim do without his lover?). Mr. Jacquel (Anubis), Czernobog, Jesus, and Easter have been gone since season 1. So that's been trying.

But otherwise it's been a fun show. Someone should probably update the thread title to season 3 though.

I really liked the book and like most Gaiman stuff. I was excited for this when I saw S1 first announced but have never watched because I don't have the channel.  But honestly reading little tidbits about the show don't get me excited at all.  It sounds like a mess.  This is a story that allows for some confusion - but the number of characters you just described leaving/being replaced is crazy.  At some point don't they just give up?

  2. I kind of thought someone would post this before now...

But this thread was based on bad info.  Right now Keaton is only coming back for the Flash movie.

When The New York Times reported that DC Films' plans to have Michael Keaton reprise his role as Batman in "The Flash," some fans took it as Keaton would be Batman permanently in the DC Extended Universe.

Microsoft is touting Series S as a 1440p next-gen console.  But a number of prior gen games are running at 1080p after being patched for it, including some of their own, like Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 4.

If it's struggling to meet its 1440p target with last gen games, is it proper to market it as a 1440p next-gen machine?

If you'd answer that no, they weren't being upfront enough.

It's probably a reach to call it a 1440p console - but it can do it on some games.  This isn't really a pearl clutching lie.  The last gen was sold pretty often as 4k.

Honestly for people buying the S -  1080 is going to be good enough most of the time.  1440 is an odd resolution for TV's, and I'm guessing that someone who cares enough about graphics to hook up a fancy monitor to their console is going to either want a PC or a higher end console.

The S has its place, and that place is as a secondary console or a console for a kids room/dorm room etc.  It absolutely is next gen.  Same internal design as the X and not hard to lower the resolution so it can handle all the same games.  It was designed to run the same software as the X at a lower resolution, until that is proven false or shown to hold games back I'll trust it can do that.

Eh, that seems to be less and less the case these days as consoles become closer and closer to just being PCs.

Here's one example from Digital Foundry:

From other comparisons I've seen, this seems to hold true pretty much across the board on cross-platform games.

I really don't feel like we have seen what the ps5 or XSX can do. I think both companies rushed the hardware and didn't get the software tools to developers in time (maybe somewhat because of covid). I think in a year we will see games on another level for both systems. Of course they will never be able to compete with high end pc's.

This is what I was hoping a show as innovative as The Mandalorian would do. Unfortunately they (I'm guessing) stuck with the artist-made CGI method of Rogue One, which turned out about what you'd expect.

This channel has other videos like this, fixing Disney's CG replacement with deepfake ones, and it's always 1,000x more convincing.

The lip-sync on both faces is terrible.  Can this technology not bring the lips together to make 'P' sounds?  Try saying "he want's your permission" with your lips not touching...

Ever since the Yule festival update, Evior is always drunk when I load my game.  I even died to see what happens and it loads a drunk Evior.

Hope a AA stall is added to the Yule festival.

That has been happening to me too!  took me a while to figure out what was happening.  Usually I just meditate right away and drunkenness' goes away.

oh I’m well aware of the levels of deus ex machina the force can be to move the plot or get heroes our of a tight spot. I never assumed it couldn’t be explained.

they made the beacon seem like a signal flare to Jedi. Not something that would create a powerful bond between the two making Grogu low jacked. And the Luke and Leia thing was always explained as being possible because of their strong connection to each other. Even still, it’s something used as the story needs it, as there are times they seemingly don’t have this power when they need the tension and suspense of two close Jedi not being able to just sense the other is alive or their exact location in the galaxy.

if Jedi powers were consistent there’d almost never be any tension ever if a Jedi is around. Heck, Luke shouldn’t have even needed his lightsaber.

I’m not going to get hung up on it. I’m sure there will be an interview or something at some point giving a canonical explanation for everything in the episode. It’s just a thought I had after seeing the episode. In the end this didn’t affect my enjoyment of the scenes.

I'm not bashing this show at all - love it.  Best star wars content since the 80's in my opinion.

But yeah seems several things including storm troopers, droids, and jedi are as powerful or weak as the story needs them to be.  Remember in PM Obi wan and Qui gon having problems with a couple destroyer droids - and these dark troopers seem on another level from those but luke went through them like they weren't there.

  8. I don't really like the addition of Vader to the Obi series.  I would probably really like a separate Vader series.  It would be cool to see him hunt down a different Jedi each week and see more of his lava crib.  I just don't see how you have a series with the two of them with the existing canon saying they definitely don't have any contact during this timeframe.

A couple of theories on how they can get around this:

    1. Shuri becomes the new BP (by the end of the next movie)
      • I would like this idea the best if it wasn't so problematic that the actress is a shit-for-brain anti-vaxxer/COVID-hoaxer
    2. They use the Multiverse to pull in an alternate dimension BP, maybe played by Michael B Jordon (in the other universe he was a good guy, not Killmonger)
      • I like this since MBJ is such an amazing actor, and was Boseman's friend.
    3. They introduce a different (non-T'Challa) male character to take the BP mantle by the end of the next movie
      • This could work too, but would still be big shoes to fill

Well they are definitely doing the multiverse thing with Spiderman.  How about if Tobey Maguire gets sucked into our dimension and stuck here... there is already a spiderman.  He could fill the role as the next Black Panther.

  10. I'll be excited for this someday, but not today.

That trailer reminds me a lot of the first Halo Infinite trailer with MC wearing the hooded wrap walking through the desert.  It had nothing to do with the eventual game - just something to show.

And the developer piece was just talking points.  "female lead! Fighting for the environment! Embrace the past! Create the future!"

This will probably someday be a great game, but my guess is we are looking at holiday 23 at best.
