We've seen publishers pull out of cloud-based Steam game streaming with GeForce Now.  Streaming a local PC seems to not cross any boundaries.

As for an Xbox hypothetically running all Steam games directly, Sony could leave the platform same way that EA once did.  It wouldn't make Horizon unplayable, but would probably damper their desire to put games on Steam in the future.

Microsoft is also going to soon release a web based version of xcloud for ios.  I'm not sure if they will lock that to ios devices... but even if they do it won't be long before someone finds a hack and has gamepass games running on a PS5.  But really that is all a win for Microsoft.  If they can get more gamepass subscriptions then that is exactly what they want.

  2. So the whole thing with the coordinates... Just a virtual launch party.

The launch of a new generation of games is the culmination of epic creative and technical endeavors from developers around the globe, all focused on a single goal: delivering immersive new experiences and rich new worlds to explore. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S day one lineup reflects this incredible ingenuity – bringing you a creative, diverse and deep collection of iconic, inventive, and...

I'm a little bummed and a lot confused as to why there is no Minecraft or Minecraft Dungeons on this list.  I was kind of looking forward to seeing the raytracing in Minecraft and it is something my kids play a lot.  There has been a lot of silence about Minecraft on the Series X since about last March.

I think they already stated that those preview units had limited compatibility, with some games like Gears 5 being back compat at first and then being removed after an update. It could be an OS thing, or it could be intentional to limit what they want the previewers to have access to. Or it could just be that they're still working on it. I guess we'll find out in November.

I have seen other reviews say that they are limited on what they can play.  They are opening it up gradually.  These games will all be there at launch.  MS is intentionally focusing attention on certain games for preview each week.

People barely care now, I don’t think 6 months down the road you will have very large scale care :p

Also, with the way things are going half the country will probably have contracted it by then.

Also, international markets will continue to improve even if the US is a dumpster fire.

Well there is either a reason to care or there isn't.  If we shouldn't care in 6 months then we shouldn't care now.

If nothing changes with the virus and everyone goes back to business as usual with no health repercussions... then the only real reason for all this was the election.  :(

This will unquestionably lead to massive contraction in location counts. My initial guess would be a minimum of 30% of screens are gone.

Every theater right now, drive ins the exception, is better off being closed and preserving cash until there is a steady stream of new product. But I don’t think that happens until April at this point.

That all really sucks.  The movies that are still supposed to come out this year - free guy, monster hunter... I wonder what possible business they can do.

Even next April, hopefully we can be getting back to normal.  But something will need to change for that to happen.  Either the virus will need to mutate and not be killing people anymore, or we are going to need a working vaccine or treatment.  If nothing has changed by next April then nothing will change for the theatre industry.

  7. Last month I attended virtually the Microsoft Ignite conference.  Since this was a virtual event it was free this year to sign up for.  I just received an e-mail from MS that allowed me access to their 'friends and family' discount store which has all their digital items between 50-80% off.  There is a limit that I was only able to spend up to $250.  But you can purchase games, gamepass, copies of windows, and subscriptions to office 365.  I grabbed a year of gamepass ultimate for $85.

From my understanding they have been sending out these e-mails for all of their virtual conferences and I think most of them are free to attend/sign up for.  There is going to be another Microsoft Ignite in March.

  8. Internet rumors:

HD space after OS and reserved space is 664gb.

There is also supposedly a video of a cold boot of the system that people are freaking out about because it is about 3 seconds slower than the sex... But it has not been confirmed that it was a current build.

Well, April 2021 instead of March 2021 for Bond. I'm all but certain there will be no major US releases until March at this point. The market conditions simply can't improve any reasonable amount with the winter approaching, no vaccine, and people really over even trying beyond the most basic things like wearing masks indoors.

Can the big theater chains survive that long on the hope people will come back?
