Everyone is saying the right things, but it's still going to be a monumental undertaking.

My only reference to the story is listening to the Audible version of this - which has a great cast and I thought was very well done.  However that seemed to be a good medium for the story and I agree that live action is going to be hard to pull off.

I don't really think I want to see a live action version of the dinner section of the story...

No no no. Hear me out. Baby Chewbacca.

A lone gunman with a heart of ice is on a mission on a foreign world. Near the end of his mission he finds a baby in a hollowed out tree. That is baby Chewy of course. Oh and the man? The great grand father of Han Solo. BAM. Like pottery.

You were so close.  It will be Solo's great grandmother - who plot twist also has a fling with a young yoda - and bam Grogu.  Everyone in this universe must be related!

Yeah but what you described isn't Whitewashing. Whitewashing is when a character's race is changed to a white character because the studio wants to appeal to a "broader audience" (a white one). This was an actual practice in Hollywood. I don't know if you've ever heard the term "Will it play in Peoria?" That was studio speak for "Will White people go see this?"

I can tell you a story a friend of mine told me once. Years ago he was working on a show that took place in New Orleans post Katrina. In the background of a pivotal scene, there were a bunch of residents of the neighborhood the show took place in that in real life, was 90% black. When one of the showrunners watched the footage from the shoot, he ordered them to reshoot the scene with more White People to "make it a neighborhood that people will care about." a direct quote :| THAT is Whitewashing.

Incidentally, it was this incident and a couple of others that led to this friend quitting the screenwriting business entirely and going back to school to get his Law degree. He's a Law Professor and activist dealing with Juvenile Justice and racial disparities in the legal system now. THAT is how pervasive racism is in "woke" Hollywood.

I'm against "whitewashing".  Whitewashing is bad.  What I called BS was his comment - because this is not a case of whitewashing and to throw the term around is a disservice to all.

I mean, the new games looks kinda bad now that you can really see the gameplay. I don't even like computer-ARPGs and I think I'd rather play this.

Also, it is fucking weird how ARPG can mean both shit like PoE and also Dragon's Dogma, and then shit like Tales of.

It is pretty disappointing what they did with that game.  I was very excited when it was announced... and now that you can see what they made I really wish they would have just put a generic name on it.  When it does not sell it will be a reason to not revisit Dark Alliance again for a long time.

I mean I’m sure they want literally anything they can claim as first party to release in 2021

Anything?  I'm not sure you understand what this game is.  It is a major release RPG from Bethesda on the same level as Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 4.  It is also running an significantly upgraded engine 'the largest engine upgrade for Bethesda since Oblivion'.

This along with Halo, Forza Horizon, Age of Empires IV, and Flight Sim are all some huge games coming in 21 for Xbox.

I posted this in the "what are you watching" thread but WB just released the entire Thundarr collection on Blu ray. I have been getting up on Saturday mornings with a bowl cereal to watch a few episodes.

If you are interested you can watch a lot of these on youtube , sometimes full sets.

MASK was also added to Amazon Prime a week or two ago.

  7. I would agree that Valhalla is the best in the series.  The main issues I had with the game were technical ones - my saves did not function well at all.  There were multiple times that I lost hours of playtime.  The good thing about that in this game is that once you have seen something and experienced it once you can blaze through it the second time.  I could literally catch up on 4 hours lost in about 30 minutes by just running from point to point directly and skipping all conversations.  However the save issues did kind of sour me on the game by the end.  I don't think I will be picking up the expansions.  I played on the Series X.

  8. I love how different everyone's list is.  I think it is great to have so many different opinions represented.

I'm not sure what my total top 10 would be but it would for sure include

    Superman 2

    TMNT 90's original

    The Crow

    Road to Perdition

X-Men (the first one - I know it does not hold up but I loved Wolverine as a kid and this was the first glimpse of him live action)

    Avengers Endgame

Not sure of the rest for now.

  9. Bringing politics into these discussions just clouds everything.  It will either be good or not on its own.  Normally my guess is that it would suck... but Disney has been putting out some damn good shows between the Mando and Wanda shows.  So it kind of depends how much money they are spending on this.  If it is a quick cash grab that they are aiming at a teen crowd then it will suck.

I'm actually quite the fan of The Evil Within so I'd love to see a full update. I do have it on Steam actually from one of those $2.99 type sales so that'd be great.

Also I think I'm secretly just butthurt about not having this cool upgraded version of Prey :salt:

Someone else already posted in this thread... but really the newest updates to Prey were more enhancements for backwards compatibility on Xbox rather than direct Prey updates.

Halo yes, Starfield, hmmmm just not sure.

I think if they can possibly get it out this year it would be a huge opportunity.  Like you have already said - next year is going to be crammed full of almost two years worth of delayed games.  2022 games are going to have a hard time carving out a space.  If they can get Starfield in 21 it will make a bigger splash.  Just make sure it is done and don't pull a cyberpunk.

Not sure the viewpoint makes sense with split screen co-op. Not top down anymore, may make it more difficult than before

Blah.  I didn't even see that they had changed that.  I just watched a bit of the gameplay video.  So this no longer has anything to do with the old Dark Alliance games.  That sucks.  I have good memories of those.
