Coming to the Switch as well.

I was thinking about buying DOOM for the Switch, just so I could play it on the go... that was until I tried playing Fortnite with the Joycons and ugh... The pro controller works okay, but if you also need the controller... what's the point.

Also, games don't seem to go on sale for the Switch. You can get DOOM for the Xbox for like $15 bucks... on the Switch? $50 bucks... for a lesser version.

It just got added to Game Pass, so technically, $10 :p

  2. I just played a few matches earlier today because it's on Free Play on Xbox this weekend. I never really felt like I was doing anything. I was driving forward and every once in a while I would get points for some reason. There were other players around for me to crash into, or not. I crashed a lot and it made me choose my vehicle after every crash. After watching a replay of the takedown. Then it would respawn me and then respawn me again to "get back in the action". I swear I never got to drive for longer than 30 seconds at a time before being interrupted by something.

I played about four matches and then uninstalled it. I felt like I pretty much experienced all there was to experience there. Maybe I just didn't "get it" but I would've preferred the original developers of Motorstorm just make another Motorstorm.

  3. PUBG needs a personality. It might be fun to play, but Fortnite is a marketing firm's wet dream.

I'd be willing to bet that the popularity of Fortnite with the younger generation is 10% playing the game and 90% dressing their characters up in funny outfits and dancing. Oh and 50% watching other people dress up their characters and dance on Twitch.

I know that's more than 100% but I'm rolling with it.

  4. Oddly enough, this announcement coincides with a recent trip to South Korea (and PUBG Corp. specifically) by Microsoft.

I'm wondering if after their "partnership" MS wasn't a tad unimpressed by Bluehole and PUBG Corp. focusing more on suing people than fixing their shit. I'm not sure how much MS invested in them but they can't be happy campers right now.

I didn’t even know people said “ness” until a few years ago.

I think it’s a loud vocal few who do that. Bit that’s based off nothing.

All the GiantBomb guys have been saying it for years and it's fucking annoying. But I guess if Gerstman can't be bothered to comb his hair I'm guessing pronouncing individual letters is too much for him.

Tyranny and Shadowrun haven't, but Divinity: Original Sin/Pillars of Eternity/Wasteland 2/Torment: Tides of Numenera were ported to consoles where they faded into obscurity.

I have no idea how Dragon Age: Origins did on the consoles, but I think we can surmise based on how completely different Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Inquisition were that EA felt it needed to radically change to suit that market.

Dragon Age on consoles wasn't much different than the other two on console, except for the fact that you could pause the combat to issue commands. It did not have the top down CRPG camera view like the PC version.

  7. I dont even know if they have the infrastructure for it. Its one thing for the relative handful of people using PS Now at any given point, but for tens, possibly even hundreds of millions of people trying to play games at the same time? Plus bandwidth load? And server side hosting? What about peer-to-peer? Can a streaming service handle the processing and communication involved with 16, 32, or 64 people all sending that information back and forth to a host and clients, plus voice, with reasonable latency? To people who until now have been doing just fine with a 30Mb connection?

I'm gonna assume the answer to that is no.

  8. It's kind of funny because I was thinking about something similar to this the other day. The more mainstream games like PUBG and Fortnite become, the simpler games are getting in structure. Not simpler by design, but most puzzle/strategy games are going more in the 2D/Retro direction than in the immersive world.

Games like the old Deus Ex, Splinter Cell, etc. that had large semi-open maps with multiple solutions and different ways to go about completing an objective are becoming fewer and further between as all the publishers look toward the quick cash. Even games like Rainbow Six got much simpler, as the developers no longer had to worry about creating an immersive intricate map with good A.I.

It's getting to the point where it's not even a matter of laziness or quick cash, but more that the industry veterans that were so good at designing games like that have moved on, and the newer batch of developers quite possibly aren't even capable of thinking in that 3D space, because they've never really had to. They got their experience from making retro 2D pixel art games, and that's what they know.

Those immersive sims evolved from simpler games as the developers were learning the new technology and were excited about pushing the envelope. Now there's literally no incentive to do so, as they can just crap out a vast empty map and have people eat that shit up.

This alone is a good reason why Octopath Traveler is such a hit right now. It's not because it's anything fresh or groundbreaking, it's because it's a fucking classic turn-based JRPG from a company that had practically forgotten how to make classic turn-based JRPG's. People miss that shit, and they want it, but Square's been too damn busy making a FFXV that nobody really asked for. I'd go as far as to say that the reason Octopath Traveler is so popular is because it's the Final Fantasy game everyone wanted for the last decade but Square was too stupid to make.

I... do we need sex on everything though? I'm not remotely prudish about liking sex or the female form (+ @Derek& @Boyle5150 of course! :epilepsy:) but this just feels like more pandering for dudes who are having a hard time with the ladies. Let the market decide I suppose, but I cringe a little all the same.

There doesnt seem to be anything overtly sexual in the gameplay trailer though.
