It's about fuggin' time we got an HD remaster of series that needed/deserved an HD remaster. While I really wish they'd get off of the Japanese circle-jerk and bring it to my Xbox, at least I'll have something to play on my Switch that I didn't already own on Wii U.

Can't wait to see that premium Nintendo MSRP!

  2. I played the game through from beginning to end and I felt the combat never really evolved that much, and all of the big Thunderjaws and all that were easier to just go around. If you want to do the side hunts and stuff then sure, have at it. I found the story extremely interesting and it was the only reason I kept going because the combat got tedious and old really quick.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about but I did buy 5 old games because of XOX’s backward compatibility and enhanced features.

I’ll have to check out the MS store too

I bought them for $4 each during a Microsoft sale a year or two ago.

They've pretty much just been sitting on my 360 ever since.

  4. Not trying to hate on the game, but it looks like a fun game nobody will play. If it wants to have a snowball's chance it needs to launch on Game Pass or in the very least be a $20 digital title. I just don't think there's a market for these types of games anymore.

Maybe it's cuz I'm getting old, but anything that relies that heavily on co-op is DOA. All of my co-op buddies are getting old too and have teenage kids and work and a hundred other things to worry about than getting together with a group of people at 11 pm to get a play session going.

  5. I played it and beat it.

I think the game is a big, empty map with a shit story and no redeeming exploration whatsoever. The most interesting thing the game has going for it are the Monster Hunts, and they ultimately don't even lead to any relevant rewards. The summons seem to only kick in when you're in trouble in combat, which will rarely happen because the game is so pathetically easy. I played through the entire game and the only summon I ever saw were the ones that were scripted.

The biggest crime of the game is that it's actually pretty fun, but there's no incentive or reward to anything you do.

It's a shame too. The game had the template to be something awesome. And Cindy's cleavage.

EDIT: Matter of fact, the best thing to come out of that game were all the Cindy cosplayers. Google them. They're wonderful.

  6. Rockstar makes the most believable cities. GTAV has an insane amount of detail in terms of all the small innate qualities of a big city. Trash on the sidewalk, back alleys that have stuff scattered around. Even walking into an area that you really have no reason to walk into will have detail. Any other game will have an empty blank corner where GTA has nuance and character packed into every inch of their map.

Rockstar is the best at creating a living, realistic setting.

But they're also large, sprawling maps with little to do, where-as developers like Bethesda and CDPR has maps that are crammed with things to do and stuff to find. Bethesda are the masters of map density and consistency.j

CDPR are amazing story-tellers, but to be fair, they've only made one open world game. The Witcher 1 and 2 were broken up into chapters and while they had mini hub style maps, the story was very linear. The Witcher 3 was excellent but really the first one they attempted. Time will tell if they can duplicate their success with Cyberpunk 2077.

Ubisoft is great at creating a large map collect-a-thons. They took RARE's formula from the N64 days and perfected it. Then they copied/pasted it into every open world game they have. They lose points for The Crew 1 and 2's amazingly large, completely barren maps.

Volition made great open world maps for Saints Row but there's no way in a frozen hell they can compare directly to Rockstar's. They just can't.

Avalanche makes very beautiful organic maps with amazing foliage tech. They just need to figure out what to do in them. Can't wait for RAGE 2 to blend their tech with Id's and Beth's direction.

Can't comment on Sucker Punch or From Software because I'm not a Souls fan nor did I play any of the Infamous games, but if you can convince me they make a better city than Rockstar, so be it. I would argue that From Software is more of a metroidvania than a true open world.

In all, ever developer has strengths and weaknesses so I don't know if one can be considered the best. I love Rockstar's cities but ultimately I always get bored with GTA. I've spent the most time with Bethesda's games but they're usually pretty buggy and use the same assets in their games. Skyrim will have House A, B, and C appearing in every town, so it does get a little bland at times.

Nintendo loses points because Breath of the Wild's open world was larger and more "flexible" with Link's newfound agility, but their smaller, denser maps in past games were far more interesting to me. I found BotW very boring.
