Any meaningful difference between the PNY 4070 Super I originally linked to and this MSI one? Or is one of PNY or MSI just better than the other company in general? The PNY 12 GB 4070 Super I linked to in the OP went out of stock at Dell before I was able to order.

    @cusideabelincoln @AbsolutSurgen @Spork3245

There's basically no difference. MSI is one of the bigger dealers in video cards, but their quality is not necessarily better. Any manufacturer can make a dud card, and I'd wager the quality control on how they are assembled is the bigger difference between these two cards because their reference design is practically identical.

  2. Oh yeah, I forgot a cooler. You can get a good air cooler for $40+ or a liquid cooler for around $100. You don't need to spend much, in fact most of the price of spending more is really about making it look cool with RGB and stuff.

Video decoding will be handled by the GPU. The Intel processor will be better if you do productivity that needs more cores, like video editing and such. I'd lean more towards the AMD CPU for your situation, and it's also rumored the next gen of AMD CPUs are going to be a big improvement and should be compatible with the motherboard. The motherboard has multiple PCIE 5.0 slots (one for an SSD, one for a GPU) in case that becomes relevant in the future.

    Revised list:

    PCPARTPICKER.COM

  3. The non-Ti is a slightly better value. 12GB of VRAM will start falling off after the console refresh cycle happens, but should hold its own as the current consoles give devs access to about 12GB of VRAM so that's what cross-platform games will target.

That appears to be a quality Seasonic-made unit, so it will probably be fine to use but be prepared to get a new one. You will know if it's bad if you get crashes while gaming or some other high-powered load.  If you go with an AMD CPU they require less power which should help, and the 4070 also doesn't use much power either.

So, while I haven't searched for the absolute best value parts, something like this:

    PCPARTPICKER.COM

  4. It could be a lost cause. A couple of years ago my Windows (notably explorer.exe) was acting funny and had poor performance while gaming. I tried every single fix and optimization I could find, including half of those commands. Nothing worked, so I caved and did a fresh install of the OS.  My problems were finally solved after that.

You could try a reset that keeps your files, which basically copies over your documents folder and resets everything else.

But it's probably best to wipe everything. Get an external drive and copy over any files. If there are program settings you'd like to transfer, then copy over your entire C:\Users folders and make sure it includes your AppData folder (which is hidden by default at C:\Users\username\AppData) since that contains most of the settings for your applications.

  5. Have you tried checking your file system for errors?

In the command prompt, try these:

    Quote

    dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

If that finds errors, then do

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    Followed it up with

    sfc /scannow

Anybody ever see this in game before? I know i haven't

I've come across those enemies but don't recall that move. There are only 3* of those enemies in the game and they are in late-game areas. So you'll be high leveled and unlikely to be grabbed when you meet them because you'll generally know how to fight them by then.

*3 of those variants. They exist as non-rotten versions earlier in the game.

Level 36 now. Made big progress today. Did most of you guys expose an area where you level quickly? Like a cheat area or did you legitimately level up?

Beat bosses to gain the most runes. Before going into a dangerous area spend all of your runes to level up. Save the Golden Rune pickups as emergency money.

Caelid+Dragonbarrow (the south east area) gives you a lot of runes for bosses. A couple of enemies can be cheesed without fighting them for some quick runes you can get right from the start of the game. You can make a Night's Calvary jump off a bridge by just luring him to a spot with kukris. Greyoll, the largest sleeping dragon, can be killed easily with any bleed weapon.

So do we know if we can carry over our same stats/character for sure or not?

Yes, it carries over and from what I can tell carries over both ways. You can teleport to/from the DLC and the main game and any graces. It'll be a new area on the map that you have to do a "quest" for to access much like you have to do to access Haligtree or Mohgwyn Palace. Specifically, you have to beat Mohg to gain access to it.

  9. Welp, finished it.

The show stumbles past the opening episodes. Some questionable choices on which character-building moments to omit and which to spend time on. Even more questionable in that they attempt to stay true to certain banger moments from the animated series but most of the build-up leading to those moments was cut or reduced so they don't hit as hard. They also copy dialogue from the animated series that doesn't make sense for live-action-only viewers.

I'm not a fan of the voice-over narrations at the end of some episodes. One is particularly bad because it literally just states the obvious from what we had already saw previously in that episode so it's just a wasted 5 minutes they could have used for other characters. While I'm fine they cut out a lot of the goofiness from the animated show, they also just cut out other stuff too that was important and don't replace it with anything worthwhile. They really should have had at least one more "side-adventure" journey to flesh out both Team Avatar and Team Zuko.

    And it's odd that...

    Spoiler

Aang doesn't learn any water bending, nor even attempts to learn any. The live-action story loses focus on the goal of Team Avatar's journey. In the animated show they kept their goal in mind while at the same time doing side adventures and the live-action is not as successful at this.

alright I’ll get into spoilers a bit. At least with the cartoon in full and the live action up through episode 2, which I also watched last night.

I get what theyre doing with Kyoshi there. They did a similar thing in a later episode of the cartoon. Though the episode was one of more silly-side quest adventures the team had. Nothing that significantly moved the main plot forward. Here they repurposed it to show Aang what he can become and why its important for him master the major bending practices.

maybe it’s because of how abbreviated the live action show will need to be, but the show seems to be absent of some of the themes from the source material at were integral to character arcs. Such as Aang constantly on the search for fun things to do to put off having to be the Avatar and fighting in a war. But starting to see first hand that his very presence can lead to people getting hurt. But at this time he thinks hes got plenty of time to master the elements.

This fear of having so much responsibility thrust upon him and him being taken away from monk Gyatso and all he knew was why he left the Air temple. Not to clear his head, but to run away and play. Its why in the cartoon the first things out of his mouth was asking Katara if she wanted to go penguin seal sledding. His reasoning for leaving haunts him through the series. He even lies to Katara about being the Avatar, which is alluded to in live action, but was more a lie of omission. In the cartoon he knows what he did was selfish, but as Katara would point out several times in the cartoon he’s still just a kid. Its why Gyatso didnt want him told yet.

Zuko’s long battle with many things, but one of them tempering his rage and feeling like he has to prove himself at every turn and biting off more than he is prepared to handle. There are glimpses of this, but he seemed like a lost child more in episode 2 than somebody barely able to contain their rage and impatience.

they almost completely stripped away Sokka’s arc. It didnt need to be the same “haha girls are weak”, but it was a theme of him learning humility and as a result became a better fighter. While here it seemed almost entirely dominated by “a girl liking a foreign boy”.

Aang’s scenes with Kyoshi were interesting and very much captured her philosophy on what role an Avatar plays in the world. I do hope that her theme isnt the through line though as Aang learns that being the Avatar and mastering all 4 elements isnt just about amassing power. Its also about being the connection between nations and cultures. Each element requires a different philosophy, a different approach. To learn how to waterbend is to learn and understand their culture identity and way of life.

Iroh was much better in episode 2. I loved how much personality they gave Momo. I’ll wait to see where they go with the relationship between Zuko and Zao. Everything around the Agni Kai felt important to Zuko’s personal journey and who Zao was a person and how the rest of the fire nation may look at Zuko, thus informing us more about his mental state and drive.

Through episode 4 now and the show has definitely condensed, remixed, and reordered some storylines. A few arcs seem to have been done prematurely (as in not giving them enough time to breathe), so I hope they do more later on to support them. If not then I think people who only watch the live action show are going to miss a lot of emotional impact since they don't know as much history as the animated viewers have.

    Concerning Kyoshi

    Spoiler

I think they are bringing a later arc and giving it more focus when sprinkling it out through the live action show. The arc being when Aang feels the pressure of his responsibilities about killing Ozai so he communes with his past selfs and they all try to tell him what to do. In the end though, it's about Aang finding his own path as he learns new powers and how to handle tough situations.

That's fine because most bosses I can't beat on my own. I'll keep that in mind about leveling vigor early on.

Get the 30 vigor quickly, which should be enough for Limgrave, Liurnia, and parts of Altus and Caelid. Have 40+ for Mountaintops. 50+ for the final boss rush, Mohgwyn, and Haligtree. Don't need go over 60 vigor until new game plus. If you find yourself getting better at the game then 40-50 Vigor is a good place stop to keep you from getting one/two shot and you can put more levels into damage stats.

How is it slow? Everything clicks more or less instantly for me. I use it to switch monitors fairly regularly.

There have always been delays for mine across multiple PCs, especially when going to the 3D settings for individual games that takes forever to load the list of apps. Also the clunky nature of having a scroll bar in the 3D settings along with drop down menus that can be changed with the scroll wheel.

It worked great this go around. I just beat two bosses and made good progress. I finally figured out how to map items, too. 😆

My help from online were beasts.

One thing to note is you get less runes for killing bosses when you summon for help, whether you summon a real person or one of the few NPC sigils. Bosses are also harder with more HP and damage. Spirit Ashe summons don't affect rune drops though. Getting runes for levelling vigor helps so much in the early game.

I'd rather them stick with the current NCP UI. It's simple, it works, it's not some bloated POS like AMD and Intel's (and GFE for that matter, but at least that's optional).

The old one is so slow though, and AMD's is surprisingly snappy. I doubt either one is more or less bloated concerning background processing, because both vendors install performance monitoring telemetry with their drivers.

:doh:Every time I go to that specific location, I keep forgetting I have that sword. My goofy self keeps spamming arrows at that bird. But yea, I can’t believe From never patched that area so I just keep exploiting the crap out of it.

If you stack buffs so if you do >150% more damage to an enemy than that enemy's HP you get more runes than barely killing them. And then obviously wear the Gold Scarab and eating Gold Pickled Fowl Feet for even more runes.
