Are you playing the 3D remake or a pixel version? With Cecil starting at level 1, I just walked back down the mountain instead of teleporting out and I ended up basically the same level. I never had to grind or anything. I played the 3D remake btw. Almost and edit, but I guess I did grind because of this: I forgot lol. That set me ahead enough so I never had to grind for levels.
