thewhyteboar
Adam Serwer is such a good writer. I hope you all read this. It's fascinating how Trump's administration mirrors Andrew Johnson's presidency, from the sheer incompetence to the outright white supremacy. Signifyin(g)Monkey
I’d actually say Trump is more akin to Andrew Jackson. A protectionist, tariff-happy populist who was seen as fighting back against moneyed city folk, ‘woke’ reconstructionists, blacks, internationalist elites and ‘Injuns’ on behalf of poor rural whites. Persistent enflamer of racial tension and capitalizer on race chauvinism, and an elite slaveholder born with a silver spoon in his mouth who portrayed himself as ‘just another farmer’s son’. The only thing Trump doesn’t have is a Trail of Tears—thankfully because there are political forces restraining him from doing something similar to some other ethnic group that’s ‘getting in the way’, IMO. Dubya shared many of these traits, too, but he was pro-globalization.

b_m_b_m_b_m
It's ultimately useless to compare trump to any other president; he has the worst qualities of the worst of them, and the best qualities of none. I'll read this later. I always like reading Adam's stuff.

Not on the same scale as the Trail of Tears, IMO, but definitely similar in spirit.
