I often wonder how many Rwandans look the other way, too. Liberal democracy hasn’t been making the best case for itself lately, unfortunately. The relative success of authoritarian capitalist pseudo-democracies like Singapore and China have been making it look bad. Maybe the trauma of the instability of the genocide years have goaded them into accepting the faustian bargain of trading in one’s political freedoms for socioeconomic stability that defines the latter system.
