Jason
Using lobbying, the revolving door and “dark pattern” customer tricks, Intuit fended off the government’s attempts to make tax filing free and easy, and created its multi-billion-dollar franchise. Anathema-
So this year I found out that it's totally free as long as you are doing an EZ and print the documents out and mail them in. They charge you like, 40 bucks for JUST e-filing!
Dodger
there are websites you can use that will do it for free and should even let you efile for free. They’ll charge you for your state, but you can still efile. I used Free tax USA for years. You can only do the EZ form though.
Spawn_of_Apathy
My Dad used pay for the new year’s TurboTax suite, which allowed so many filings as part of that price. So he’s do the filing for myself, him, my sister, my step mom, and which ever brother worked that year. All in all it ended up working out to be pretty inexpensive per filing.
