Anyone do the Gold > Ultimate conversion recently?

I know that the trick still works where you can essentially buy a bunch of a cheap Xbox Gold cards and then convert them into Gamepass Ultimate, apparently now at a 3:2 ratio.

Mine is going to run out Monday so it will be time for me to do the trick again and also I need to then tell my step dad how to do it. Just want to make sure I have this right.

So if I want 3 years of Ultimate myself - I buy 18 3 month Gold cards from cdkeys - so that’s 54 months of Gold which should then convert at 3:2 to 36 months of Ultimate - do I have that right?

And so when it lapses - first thing I do is NOT renew (i canceled so it won’t auto renew) and then I add my fucking 18 codes so I have all that Gold and then go to join Ultimate and it will just present me with the option?

I think this is right but it’s such a weird thing and a lot of money in advance to pull it off so I’m hoping someone here can confirm I’m not missing anything.

I don't know how it works if you let Gamepass lapse and try the conversion, but a 3 month Gold card gives you 50 days of Ultimate if you add it to your subscription. At least it still did a month or two ago.

Edit: you get a better conversion rate with the 3 month cards than the 12 month cards.

What should I do? My ultimate ran out and I don't feel like going through hoops like stepee is explaining.

I’m over explaining it to make sure my math is right but I think it is and because my Ultimate didn’t run out yet.

To simplify:

If your Ultimate is completely out (not about to run out, you no longer have Ultimate):

Buy a 1 year gold code and a 6 month gold code from cdkeys - add them to your account

Join Ultimate - it should present you with an option to convert the gold to Ultimate

This will get you a year of Ultimate for about $75.

Multiply that if you want to do two or three years. The reason to do more years is they have already adjusted this ratio and next year you may not be able to do this. Three years is the max.

Edit: I hear you want to wait 24 hours after your Ultimate ran out also before you do this

Your other option is you can pay like $17/mo :D

Ok, thank you. I have a lawyer fee and other payments where I will drain my bank account on Monday. I'm not concerned about xbl right now anyway but I'll come back and reread this when I can buy it again so I appreciate it.

The good thing about this cloning process taking forever is I used the time waiting to get this over with as well.

Yep, still works! Ended up spending $240 for just 3 weeks shy of 3 years of Ultimate.

$80 a year is a hell of a deal.

What I didn’t realize is you can only add 3 years of GOLD, so that means you can only do the conversion to get the first two years. Then the other cards I had left over didn’t convert quite as much but close enough that it ended up only 7 weeks short of a year and you have to buy the one month of Ultimate at full price (that’s included when I say $240) so with being only 3 weeks shy of 3 years at that point, I can’t add another month anyway.

So I’d say all worked out as planned! That is over a $350 savings, ntb
