Not being true to one’s principles occurs for any number of reasons, like emotions, or simply failures of logic. Something I would like to see is making things like Holocaust denial unacceptable for public servants. Make it easier to expel anyone from police officers to congress people. Maybe that's a terrible idea I haven't thought through at all, but in an era of extreme gerrymandering and polarization, it sure would be nice if those in charge were held to a higher standard. At least in the USA no group of politicians will hold each other to that standard and police themselves, and they definitely won’t vote in laws to give the general public that authority. And even if they did, the very people that do this kind of crap, like Margery Taylor Green have a base that keeps supporting her no matter what. Soooo we’re kind of just fucked to live with these assholes in office until somebody crazier runs against them and wins, or they’re arrested for child porn.
