There is a Monster Energy Drink promotion for Series X that leaked.

Based on the value of the prize listed some are coming to the conclusion it's $600.

The promo does include Halo Infinite though as well, and clearly states that the prize and the value are not in market and may change.

More leaks coming out that say $600.

These could be wrong but there is starting to be a damn lot of evidence.

My guess is that both consoles will be the same price. If Sony comes in for less they would win in a huge landslide... But most estimates are that the parts for the ps5 are more expensive because of the hard drive.

I'm sure we will find out all the prices very soon.

So by your logic The Hulk should just be god tier at the start of the game? Then where's your sense of progression? If you play on easier difficulties where you're significantly overleveled compared to your enemies (The game allows you to do this when selecting missions) then you can pretty much mow anything down giving you the sense of power that you're talking about. Otherwise if you want a challenge you can bump the difficulty up. The way they handle character progression is no different than what we've seen in other recent superhero games, The Batman Arkham games, Spiderman and even the old Hulk games you just have more directions you can build your character out in. If you want to build the Hulk to being an overpowered damage dealer, you can do that. If you want to make him a tank that soaks up damage  you can do that as well. There's a lot of versatility here.

The game isn't that hard (at least the Beta isn't) and we were doing missions last night where we were the enemies were 5 levels above us including some missions where enemies just had skulls over there heads (which is a sign of immediate death in most RPGS) I think @JPDunks4 even remarked that the game seemed "too easy" at points. So yeah, I think they've done a good job balancing progression, character balance and gameplay difficulty.

I don't like progression for characters where it doesn't make sense. It can make sense for some like batman. Several good batman movies show him getting better by acquiring new gadgets or training. I haven't noticed any hulk movies where he inserts a new spine so he can win the day.

Honestly the problem has little to do with the hulk. The problem is the story telling got crammed into a game where it didn't fit.

Great games have either an idea or or a story first and a game is created around it. For example the first gears of War game was the idea of "30 seconds of fun". You have a constant loop of intense great battles. The game was created to support the idea. Games like TLOU had an idea of a story to tell and the game was created to tell that story.

With this avengers game they did it backwards. They had the game and money making strategy in mind first (destiny) and they then tried to fit characters and story into that setting later.

When you get to play both of them outside of scripted story missions they play MUCH better. Smashing shit as The Hulk never gets old and I can see upgrading him to be an unstoppable engine of destruction being a lot of fun in the main game.

This right here is what is wrong with this game.  The idea behind the game is flawed.  Destiny is great for Destiny... but you can't just see dollar signs and apply it to the successful superhero genre.

The hulk should not need artificial upgrades to become 'unstoppable'.  That is kinda the definition of the character.

It is frustrating that the creation of this game not only kept many other super hero games from being created during this time period - but it also ate up the time of several very talented studios that each could have produced something better than this on their own.

And another article on the rumors.  It's more and more people coming out about it.  Jeff Grubbs never had said anything until yesterday.

Also realize this is Playstaion news technically, but it's not mean to bash the PS5 or flame any console war shit.  Just these rumors were floating around about 3rd party games potentially being significantly better on Xbox at launch, and that could mean something to some people, especially if its also cheaper.

Sure the games will perform better on Xbox, but Spiderman is only on PS5.  Sony busy working on getting exclusive rights to Lebron for 2k, Mahomes for Madden, and Sniper Rifle for COD.

No but average people ain’t paying $500 at launch anyway, let alone during a pandemic. But idiots are like me!  Release it. I am ready.

Yea I am still buying at launch.  But I don't think I could really explain a great reason why at this point, other than I can and I want to.

Maybe MS will pull a Sega and it’ll be available “right now!” upon announcement :p

Based on new information... I retract my previous comments. MS best bet now would be to release the hardware as soon as possible, and make sure they are well under the cost of the ps5. Halo is a big deal.  Losing that launch title is going to hurt the Xbox bad.

    Incorrect. I was 100% kidding.

Also, by your logic regarding the bots, it would be equally impossible to preorder due to said bots preordering.

So you don't believe in Bots?  Swtiches haven't been available since march mostly because of bots.

I get that you are probably... mostly kidding.  But this wouldn't work for a console release in 2020.

Many (maybe most) people will be buying online - not in store.  With the way bots work now very few real people would be able to purchase these if you took away the ability to pre-order.  You would end up having a several month period where the only option for regular people would be to pay scalpers huge fees online.  For Microsoft especially this would be a death blow.  Everyone would just get the PS5 using the normal methods.

My wife and I like being in the world of Middle-Earth, and we both stand by the fact that the Hobbit movies are a lot of fun. The extended editions are better because then it feels like you're in a LOTR TV show. :p

Eh, I guess this is a good thread to talk about this because I watched them again about 6 months ago with my kids. The first movie was okay... The next two reminded me of watching star wars ep 1.  I just can't take them. The hobbit is a simple story that didn't need three movies. It was just greed to stretch them that thin. Like butter scraped over too much bread.

EA/Origin Access has lived on for years without doing a big release each month.

There's no reason a publisher would have to compete directly on Games Pass' terms.  There's no fault in going after a slice of the pie.  And if it fails, that's no biggie, since people will still keep buying their games regardless.  That's the approach Ubisoft has taken with Uplay+.  They seem to not be concerned with the price and value comparison.  They just know people into their properties will pay them one way or another.  They're positioning themselves more as Nintendo would in that regard: the software drives the adoption.

My thought about season passes was mainly that publishers already have big enough properties to sustain subscriptions.  CoD Battle Passes are $10 apiece and last roughly two months.  Activision could set up an all access annualized sub for only CoD still make out just fine today.  No extra games needed.

Games like GTA and CoD don't have to go searching for an audience.  They already have one.  Getting releases on services like Games Pass or EGS can drive micro-transactions sales further, sure.  But I don't think that's the path forward next-gen when platform holders are now allowing 3rd parties to set up subscriptions themselves.

We know SquareEnix is looking into it.  If Avengers does end up on Games Pass, it would do more to signify how far their own service is away in the future.

There are currently a lot of those things.  EA Access, Uplay+ etc.  My opinion is that there will be lots more of those in the near future - and that will cause a collapse where only a few services survive.  I just don't think people will be able to afford endless $15 per month fees.  I think in the end only a few large companies will survive.

But you could be right and everyone could adjust to each other and live together.  Who knows.  It will be an interesting few years to see how it shakes out.

My reasoning is independent from when you, as a personal user, get a console. Even if you wait, you will have implicitly benefited from a better hardware baseline. And being able to release better consoles midstream doesn't change the core issue with the initially released consoles being the baseline performance that developers will have to work around for the rest of the generation.

Better hardware won't stop good games from being good, but it may make it possible to make things you couldn't with lesser hardware.

And fortunately, one of the most exciting things is the great new storage options that will now be a baseline. If the consoles only got great storage capability on a midstream refresh, it would have dramatically affected how much games would be able to be built around that feature. I'm so fucking happy they went with this stuff out of the gate.

Very true.  And one of the big things in the refresh will be MORE storage.  I have no doubt before the end of this gen we will see a 200GB game.  Possibly Starfield could be the first at that size.  Not many AAA games are going to fit on the super fast hard drives of either system.

  12. So they are announcing today even more content including cosmetic things like outfits and emotes - plus some challenges that will be timed exclusives for PlayStation.  Its kind of comical at this point.  Why not just make the game a timed exclusive for PlayStation.  That would make more sense.  Only fools would pay the same $60 for this on Xbox knowing they are getting a gimped game compared to the other console.

  13. I'm in the same boat as most here.  I don't see much software that really gets me excited coming out this year.  I will get the hardware day one... mostly because that is just what I do.  I will be excited for the shorter load times in current games.  I'm not sure what it is - maybe all the talk about load times recently, but sitting through load times recently has felt especially painful.  Other than that for the Xbox I think the games I am really excited about are Avowed and Fable, and those probably are not coming out for a couple years.  Hell they may be launch games for the mid cycle refresh.  Ugh.

There’s ample opportunity for 3rd party subscriptions to sustain and not to be forced to consolidate.  All you need is an audience invested in a multiplayer brand like CoD, Madden, Monster Hunter, GTA, Rainbow Six, Avengers, etc.  It’s that type of content that can keep people paying.  And is a distinct advantage that games media has.  There's more opportunities to build sustained interest.

Season passes are already doing this. ;)

There is a difference between a season pass or a subscriptions to some games multiplayer - and what game pass is.

Game pass is tons of games - added to several times per month.  Yep lots of those are smaller games, but you get a big release game at least once a month.  Outside of the three console manufactures and EA I just don't see anyone else being successful doing that.  (add steam in there - I wasn't thinking about PC)  Yes everyone can and probably will try to pull something off.  I just don't think they will succeed doing it.  Several of the games you mention are already or were at one time game pass games (Monster Hunter, GTA).  My guess is that Avengers will be added to that list by this time next year because it will add tons of new players who will take part in micro transactions and game sales.

    Two things:

    1) 1st party games can’t sustain a service like Games Pass alone.  It takes spending money on others’ games, big and small, to fill gaps and retain subscribers.  I still believe that with Microsoft’s output, it makes much more sense than chasing $60 sales first.  I’d imagine it makes significantly more for them particularly.  Whereas with Nintendo and their evergreen titles, it might not make sense at all... yet.

    2) You’re correct that Games Pass is still in the growth period.  Like Netflix, we shouldn’t count out price hikes to sustain and scale.  Competition in the subscription sphere will inevitably bring challengers, and they need to be ready for a point when more AAA publishers break rank.  We’re seeing signs of that much sooner than with Netflix, because publishers are saavy to trends elsewhere.

All in all, Microsoft is in the place they should be right now.  It’s going to be an interesting next few years see how the rest of the industry adapts.

On your first point - I have no idea what MS is paying other companies for their games - but several publishers have said they are seeing 5x sales after getting on game pass.  MS probably has people coming to them at this point to get on game pass.

For your second point, I'm not sure how many companies can support their own game pass type service.  EA for sure and obviously Sony and Nintendo if they had the interest.  Who else?  I think with TV you will eventually see pull back because not every network is going to be able to get $15 per month from enough people.

Next few years will for sure be interesting.
