This just shows bad planning. I don't care how elite the forces are, its fucking hard to take out an embedded force. Also I'm guessing NATO and the US are providing them with ample intelligence.

I think also while the elite units of the Russian military are very well trained the bulk of the infantry are complete garbage and completely outclassed by Western countries especially US/UK/France. Furthermore Ukraine has been fighting Russia for 8 years, they aren't a bunch of greenhorns.

There is no doubt in my mind this is going to turn into a quagmire for Russia. As the US demonstrated in Iraq, its one thing to take territory and its another thing to keep it. I expect low level fighting for the next decade that will be a complete drain on the Russian economy not to mention all the sanction.

If the West really want to stick it to Putin they need to start seizing oligarh assets. Take their high end properties, soccer teams, yachts etc. I would bet you a sizable portion of Putins money held via oligarchs is in the west.
