A severe case of COVID-19 was observed in an otherwise healthy 28-year-old man who had taken oxandrolone 40 mg/day as an anabolic steroid. The patient had been taking oxandrolone for enhanced bodybuilding 30 days prior to presenting to an...

Anabolic androgen steroids (AAS) and performance-enhancing drugs have been previously reported to trigger severe viral pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome in young patients.10 11 Oxandrolone at 40 mg/day is not considered to be a very high dose of this synthetic, nonaromatisable androgen that is regarded as a dihydrotestosterone (DHT) analogue.12 DHT is known to promote the expression of transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2), and androgen signalling regulates SARS-CoV-2 infectivity.13 TMPRSS2 plays a crucial role in COVID-19 infectivity and pathogenesis since COVID-19 employs it for spike protein priming before it is internalised in an ACE2-facilitated fashion.14 DHT significantly increases ACE2 levels and internalisation of recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, and antiandrogens reduced SARS-CoV-2 infection in human embryonic cell-derived lung organoids.13 The relationship between androgens and COVID-19 is supported by the epidemiological corroboration that prepubertal children are rarely affected by clinically severe COVID-19.15 Additionally, COVID-19 is unproportionally more severe among men compared with women, among AGA men compared with non-AGA men, hyperandrogenic women compared with nonhyperandrogenic women and androgen deprivation therapy-driven suppressed men compared with nonsuppressed men affected by prostate cancer.16–18 A recently published study also found that the antiandrogen enzalutamide suppressed SARS-CoV-2 entry into human lung cells.19 Furthermore, dutasteride, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor commonly used to treat benign prostate hyperplasia and androgenetic alopecia by suppressing DHT production, has been previously observed to reduce symptoms and severity of COVID-19.20 21 Findings from the NCT04729491 trial, a double-blinded, placebo-controlled randomised clinical trial, found that early antiandrogen therapy with dutasteride has been shown to reduce COVID-19 viral shedding, inflammatory responses and time-to-remission.22 A cohort of 32 men with median age of 52 undergoing testosterone replacement therapy diagnosed with COVID-19 showed a very high hospitalisation (62.5%) and fatality rate (9.4%).23

It makes sense, steroids play havoc on your immune system as it is and considering many people who take them are overworking their body on a daily basis for the "gains", their immune system is in a constant weakened state.  Runners have been talking about over training since the onset of covid as it's well known in that community that pushing yourself too hard will temporarily weaken your immune system, but while I'm sure plenty in the bodybuilding community are aware the side effects, I doubt many of them truly care considering their acceptance to do permanent damage as it is.

damn, I was trying to to be honest but still steer people into buying it now :P

I've gotta play No More Heroes 3 first before I consider another Switch game and possibly finish the story mode in Mario Golf, but that's becoming a lost cause for me at this point.

The decisions on boosters are a complicated one:

    1)  The Israel study focused on 60+ -- older people may have a different immune response than younger people.

    2)  What is the right cadence for booster doses in the long term?

    3)  What are the increased risks of myocarditis associated with a third dose of Pfizer (particularly among younger men)?  Do those risks outweigh the potential lowered risk of getting a booster?

    4)  There have been cases with other vaccines where getting boosters too often or too early has caused increased side effects, or even a lowered immune response.

I think we need to trust the experts on this one, and follow the medical guidance from our health authorities.

Number 4 in your list is something I wish people would realize when they go rogue.  Vaccines do have a timeline and despite fears of breakthrough infections, it's still best to follow proper timelines for dosage intervals if you want your vaccine to work at its best.  Over at Reddit, tons of people went rogue the second that Israel data came out, and virtually none of them were approaching the 6th month mark, nor were apart of the age range in which the data was showing, real, beneficial results.  It's been odd watching the community over there go from pro science to going after the CDC and FDA, claiming their actions to be pushing the goalposts further away.

I’ve played a decent amount now and I am quite fond of it. I think like content wise it probably should be a $30 game or whatever, but honestly if you want this type of game just fuck it and spend the $40 and have some silly fun.

I haven’t moved on to more difficult races yet;, still checking out all the courses and leveling up some stuff, but it seems to be more about just making it through the crazy levels as fast as possible than really competing with the other racers, so the rubber band ai which is definitely present doesn’t bother me as much. These are also one lap deforming courses, so yeah just go as fast as you can, take out anyone in your way, and find the best shortcuts etc.

The courses are just insane lol, the yeti one really gets me the most so far, but they all are full of crazy shit happening and things falling apart and huge drops etc. It’s just fucking fun. There’s things like three keys to find in each level to unlock cars and collecting money and upgrading the vehicles to give you stuff to do besides just winning races as well. I mean, it’ll take time just to find the best shortcuts and all as well which I’m sure will be needed in the higher tiers, there’s a lot of alternate routes here.

I think it’s one of the nicer looking games on the switch i’ve seen recently as well. Only played in handheld but it’s a solid 720/60 and has a lot going on during the races but doesn’t seem to have any issues. The sound is..ok I guess? Idk its low cuz i’m usually watching tv at the same time.

But yeah there is also no online multiplayer, there’s 30 courses which is great but they are all one lap 2min and under courses, no mission mode or anything like that. Just arcade, single race, time trial, local mp, and the tour mode which is the main complete in cups of four races and win tournament mode.

You have unlocks and keys to find and stuff but that’s essentially it. It’s not a lot for a $40 game imo, should have been priced at $30 would be fair. However it’s just really fucking fun so if you are in the mood for this kinda thing I’d say just bite the bullet.

Sounds great, but this confirms my assumptions that I should wait for a price drop.

I’d bet a non-trivial sum that the higher dosage is the main factor, and a higher dosage Pfizer shot should be made available.

I'd presume that had the biggest benefactor in their efficiency being so wildly different at this time apart, but I do know some studies into the spacing between vaccines did show some efficiency differences overall too as countries such as the UK were experimenting with time frames.

None the less, it's exciting to learn more about how Moderna is performing given how limited data on it is in comparison to Pfizer, leaving us to simply assume whatever was going on with Pfizer was happening with Moderna as well.

If this is accurate, we ain't gettin' a Moderna booster anytime soon :p

Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine does a significantly better job of preventing COVID-19 hospitalizations compared with Pfizer's shot.

I knew Moderna was fairing better, and a few studies were hinting at it for a few months now, but I didn't realize the numbers were that different between it and Pfizer, if the data is to be solid.  This is the one downside to the Israel data, we know what's good for Pfizer, but Moderna, which we always just assumed was the same is behaving differently.  I'd love to know if it's down to the higher dosage we received, the spacing between jabs, or the slight differences in the mRNA being used.  I suppose we'll learn more next week when Moderna goes under the microscope.

  7. Since escort missions have already been stated, I'm going to go with my other frustration.   Objects you cannot crouch to get under or jump to get over.  Do not put a freaking object in a game that your character is easily capable of navigating around unless it's actually apart of the map.
