crispy4000
I'm from Austin. Our city leadership is notoriously oblivious, and has been for decades, so its no surprise they waited this long. Locals are worried that people will come anyways, as some events are still happening at the encouragement of local businesses. Two days ago the mayor was saying that SXSW wouldn't put the public at any greater risk.
Rodimus
Yeah SXSW is usually bigger than the event itself. I mean that when they are having parties and concerts that the rest of the town are throwing corporate parties for the interactive crowd and the music section has local places all over playing bands. Tons of Live music that week. Bands just want to say they played during SXSW in Austin. As someone that lives here. I don't mind them closing it huge traffic headache. I normally avoid it. Rodimus
So the Texas Democratic Convention is during SXSW and since SXSW is not happening I wonder if that would help the attendance. I also know some people at work took time off for SXSW and now they have the time off and spending it at home.
Guest
I normally spend a couple of evenings in Austin during SXSW and hit the bars where tons of bands are playing “off SXSW”. Bummer.
