Wildfires in Alberta, Canada, have burned more than 700,000 acres of land and have forced 11,000 people to evacuate, according to the province's government.

The government of Alberta said that at least two out-of-control wildfires are burning in the area -- the Chuckegg Creek Wildfire and the Jackpot Creek Wildfire.

The Chuckegg Creek Wildfire, burning in Mackenzie County just two miles south of the town of High Level, has burned nearly 692,000 acres, while the Jackpot Creek Wildfire, near Steen River, has burned more than 61,000 acres, government officials said.

While some areas in the fire zone may see rain Thursday and Friday, accompanied by cooler temperatures, there is no meaningful rainfall expected the rest of the week at Chuckegg Creek and Jackpot Creek.

The best part of this (politically) was that the conservative douchebag premier had to cancel an announcement about cancelling the Alberta carbon tax (brought in by the previous progressive government) due to wildfire smoke. I mean, that bad part is the planet becoming uninhabitable.

Except the carbon tax doesn’t stop any pollution at all. Nobody is using less fossil fuels, the poor are just getting raped even harder for it.

thee are plenty of ways to stop pollution. Carbon tax isn’t one, especially when many of your biggest polluters are exempt. Not a single economist agrees with your drama teacher, but hey, as long as he can pay for his extravagant trips, take private planes surfing, and protect Quebec companies from the law while demonizing the women who spoke out against his illegal meddling.

your leader is as disgusting as Trump. Just on the ther side of the aisle. Now he’s moved on to fearmongering and lies (Scheer will ban abortion, Veterans are asking too much, the busget will balance itself, Carbon tax is revenue neutral (not a chance)).

hopefully in the next two years, both American leaders will be gone, never to be seen again. At least the drama teacher is polling badly. Hopefully women aren’t falling for his fearmongering.

It has a secondary effect of causing companies (and consumers) to buy more fuel-efficient devices, as well as funneling that money to invest in renewable energy (if carbon tax funds go to that instead of rebates). I agree it doesn't affect usage of required fuel in a primary function. But taxes do reduce consumption long-term. It's worked in BC (which has had theirs for a while now, all while not affecting their economy). It obviously hurts resource-producing economies, but they will be hurt regardless (by reducing oil use).

EDIT - Also, I like how you think calling someone a teacher is an insult. Shows your true colours. Only with a regressive person like you would having two degrees (in literature and education) be a liability.
